Samuel is supposed to have been of Norwalk, CT on Oct 24, 1727 when his borther Joseph conveyed land to him. He was of Nowalk Feb 3, 1729/30 when he sold his property in Westport. He has been said to have been of Sharon and Kent, CT and to have left many desc. [tag 42:207-8] A survey of all early CT Monroes in these communities, they appear to have been descendants of other immigrant Monroes. We have a hypotesis as to what may have bee become of him, this based on the Doherty's 1990 book about the Beekman Patent, Dutchess County, NY. Henry Beekman and one Samuel Monroe were in a long standing controversy owing to Monroe's interference in the leasing of these lands, Monroe insisting that the lands wer poperty of the Indians and Infuencing teneants to sign leases with them rather than Beeklman. Beekman's attorney, on May 6 1752. appeared at CT offering to show an affidavit from 4 persons that had been sworn before Justice Lockwood of Farifield that about 20 years ago (ca 1732) Samuel Monroe was whipped at Norwalk for stealing (Doherty, op. cit., page 758) The CT refused to admit the document. He is called, by Beekman, "an infamous man." This tells us nothing of wife and children, but gives a possible location for his family.

Susanna Monroe was the daughter of David Monroe and Elizabeth Tedd.
Susanna Monroe was born on 2-Feb-1700.
She married Joseph Monroe, son of John Monroe and Mehetable (Unknown), circa 1717 at Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Susanna Monroe died before 1720.
Susanna as probably descended from Hugh1 Monroe of Long Island, her father David being thought to be his son. Since John1 and Hugh1 are assumed to have been brothers, Joseph 3's m to Susannah would be a marriage of second cousins. Joseph removed to Sharron, CT in 1744, probably settling on the land of his father in Wilton [Norwalk]. Although Jacobus believed all his children to be of Susanna Monroe, evidence would have it otherwise, Joseph3 was granted 4 acres at Norwalk on Nov 3 1720 by Joseph Olmstead who described himself in the deed as father-in-law to the grantee. Joseph Olmstead sold land in Norwalk Feb 13 1726/27 to John Munroe of "New Bristol in the county of Bristol, Massachussets Bay" [Bristol, RI then being in MA and on the Oct 24 of that year, Joseph3 sold to brother Samuel3 5 acres in Norwalk with house and barn. What has led to confusion in Joseph's wives is the fact that both were named Susanna and that in 1731, David of Norwalk left a will in which he named "David, son to my son-in-law Joseph Monroe," but did not, of course name Joseph's other children since they were not his grandchildren. In 1738, Joseph3 is said to have been one of the 1st purchasers at Sharon, CT. He returned to Norwalk [Wilton] and married esther. He is said to have gone to Berkshire County, MA, but he died at Nowwalk.
