The Reneaus/Renos were French Hugenots who fled from the persecutions of the Roman Catholic Church after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes by King Louis XIV of France, in 1685. We do not know exactly the section of France where the Reneaus lived prior to their emigration to England, but there is some evidence that the family of the Reneau emigre had lived in Paris at some time before they escaped from France. The name is found in early records spelled Renaud, Reynoud, Renoe, Renno, etc. He was also known as Peter Raynaud. He was also known as Peter de Reynaud. He was also known as Pierre Raynaud. On between 1685 and 1687 Pobably went to England with his brothers Louis and Benjamin.
