He left a will on 21-Dec-1797 at Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey. He left Vroutje 130 pounds in bonds, a slave and child, household goods and everything she brought with her at their marriage; also the use while his widow the use of house rooms, 2 good cows and a supply of rye, corn and buckwheat annually. The homestead farm (already deeded) was divided among the 3 sons according to survey made Apr 8 1796 by Jacobus Demarest. Grandaughter Eliazbeth, wife of Albert P. Westervelt, was bequeathed 200 pounds. The personal estate was appraised at $3,935.00. |

His wife's name does not appear in Sandwich records, but the Plymouth church records state 'Deborah Fish (who was Barrow) living now at Sandwich was July 15 (1688) declared guilty of fornication with her now husband before marriage.' There are no other Fish families in Sandwich that fit this scenario, so Deborah is tentatively assigned as Nathaniel's wife. Plymouth Church Records, Vol. I and II, 1620-1859 [15] 1688: Deborah Fish (who was Barrow) living now at Sandwich, was July, 15: declared guilty of Fornication with her now husband before marriage, & a letter read before the church to be sent to her from the Elders in their name to admonish her for her sin, the church consented thereunto.
