He was also known as Roelof Westervelt. He immigrated on 24-May-1662; aboard the Dutch West India ship Hoop. He became a member of tjhe at Dutch Reformed Church, Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey, 1687. He and nine others purchased from the Lord Proprietors of East Jersey, for the sum of L100, a large tract of land embracing some thousands of acres, extedning from the Hudson River to the Overpeck, or English Creek, and running northerly and southerly a distance of about two miles. These lands were fertile, well elevated and sloped gradually from the Palisades to Overpeck Creek. Roelof obtained the most northerly portion of the tract and setted upon it. In 1695. He a triangular lot (Sections 6 and 7, Map of Bergen County) lying between the east and west branches of the Overpeck, which was first patented by the Proprietors, who sold it in 1688 to Samuel Emmett, of Boston. Emmett then conveyed it, to Roelof Lubbertsen Westervelt. The Indians disputed Roelof's title in 1705 and he was obliged to obtain a release from them. This triangular tract extended from the two brances of the Overpeck nortward to the head of Tiena Kill Brook, and gave him one of the largest farms on the Hudson. On 17-Sep-1695. He was elected a deacon at the chrch in Hackensack, om place of Roelof Van der Linde 1705. He elected church master of the chrch at Hackensack, succeeding Jacob Hendrick Banta 1709.
