         He immigrated in 1651. He was The notarial deed mentioned above is dated ' 10th March 1651 and was passed before Hendrik Schaef, a notary public in Amsterdam. The facsimile is on the previous page. In English translation, the document says,

    Ide van Voorst, a free man of Nieunederlandt but now present within this city of Amsterdam, declared in the name of his father-in-law, Jacob Stoffelsz, also a free man there, to have engaged and hired the person of Jan Cornelisz from Vechten in the bishopric of Utrecht, who from his side accepted the hiring to the aforementioned Jacob Stoffelsz, and this with consent of his, Jan Cornelisz' father, as Jan Jansz Damen, also free man in Nieunederlandt, also present here, declares to be true, as a farmhand or house-servant, for the time of three consecutive years, taking effect with his arrival in that land and his setting foot ashore. During which time the same Jan Cornelisz shall serve his aforementioned master or his master's wife as a farm hand, performing all work that makes part of that, with no exception, obediently, willingly, loyally and discreetly as becoming and fitting a good servant. For which he shall enjoy there from his aforesaid master in current money of that country, the first year sixty, both following years each year eighty Carolus guilders, in addition to free food, drink and lodging, as well as paid food and passage thither. But he must provide his own clothing. All this in good faith, signed by them in Amsterdam, at the day and year as written above.

    "Father-in-law" is also used in 17th century Dutch for "stepfather", as in this case. Jacob Stoffelsz was the step-father of Ide van Voorst. Jan Jansz. Damen had a long-time connection with the Van Voorst family. When Cornelis Van Voorst died in 1639, he left two sons -- Jan and Hendrick -- by his first wife and Ide and Anneken by his second wife, Vrouwtje Ides. Jan Jansz. Damen was one of two guardians of Jan Comehsz. Van Voorst. Vrouwtje Ides then married Jacob Stoffelszen who must have raised her two minor Van Voorst children, since Vrouwtje was dead by April 1641 (Calendar of Dutch Historical Manuscripts, ed. by Edmund B. O'Callaghan, pages 6, 73, 76). Between 1651 and 1654. He purchased Cornelis Van Tienhoven's house and land in Brooklyn, Long Island. The cost of his new home was 1300 Carolus Guilders with equal payments to be spread over a three year period. In Apr-1655 at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He purchased the farm formerly that of Cornelis Hendrickse Van Eeens, on the wes side of the road in Flatlands in Aug-1662 at Flatbush, Kings County, New York. He sold land Jan sold his farm in Flatbush to Claes Melles Baes in Aug-1664 at Flatbush, Kings County, New York. He was he had a tavern in Brooklyn before 1667 at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. He a member of the church at Brooklyn at Dutch Reformed Church, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, 1677. He resided at at Wallabout, Kings County, New York, in 1677. He and Sophia Martense resided at at Bushwick, Kings County, New York, in 1679. Jan Cornellszen Damen left a will on 1-Sep-1680

    Sophia was apparently sick enough to warrant the writing of a will. In the joint will she and Jan made, Sophia was recorded as "...at present being very sick in bed." In this will Jan and Sophia left everything to each other with the land in Breiuckelen specifically names as well as other lands whose location were not given. Jan's cousin Jan Cornelise Buys was one of the three witnesses to this will. (Sophia not only recovered, she went on to bear three more children in the next seven years).

This was a small section of a larger portion of land at Wallabout, which on May 10 1695 was deeded to William Huddlestone of New York. Jan and Sophia deeded all except six acres which had previously been deeded to Gerrit Middagh in 1693. On 15-Dec-1693 at Wallabout, Kings County, New York. Jan Cornellszen Damen William Huddlestone and his wife Sarah deeded to John Damon the land described previously. On 2-May-1696 at Wallabout, Kings County, New York.
    Jan Cornellszen Damen appeared on the census of 1698 at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York; with his wife, four childeren and one slave. He held the position of a constable in 1884.

             Jan Jansen Damen was the son of Jan Cornelisz Damen and Aaltje Jans. Jan Jansen Damen was born circa 1607. He married Adriana Cuveille on 7-May-1638; Ariantje married Jan Jansen Damen on May 7, 1638. Damen, sometimes referred to as "Old
        Jan," was employed as the church warden and also had a sizable tract of land west of the
        Vigne's. This union combined their previously-held properties, giving Adrienne and Jan
        ownership of a very large bouwerie. It extended from Pine Street north to Maiden Lane, and
        from the East River to the Hudson River. The following is the translation of the prenuptial
        agreement by Adrienne and Jan, concerning her children by her deceased husband, Guillaume
        Vigne:

        "Dirck Volgersen Noorman and Ariaentje Cevelyn, his wife's mother, came before us in
        order to enter into an agreement with her children whom she has borne by her lawful
        husband Willem Vienje, settling on Maria Vienje and Christina Vienje, both married
        persons, on each the sum of two hundred guilders ... and on Resel Vienje and Jan
        Vienje, both minor children, also as their portion of their father's estate, on each the
        sum of three hundred guilders; with this provision that she and her future lawful
        husband, Jan Jansen Damen, shall be bound to bring up the above named two
        children until they attain their majority, and be bound to clothe and rear the aforesaid
        children, to keep them at school and to give them a good trade, as parents ought to
        do." This agreement was dated "the last of April 1632," but was not recorded until 7
        May 1638. [New York Historical Manuscripts: Dutch, Volume 1, ed. and trans. by Arnold J. F. Van Laer. Baltimore, 1974, The editor, Van Laer, was of the opinion that the year 1632, given as the date of the document, is probably wrong and should be 1635 or later. The document was certified by William Wyman, blacksmith, and Jan Thomaisen Groen, and witnessed by Jacob Albertsen Planck who arrived in New Amsterdam in 1634 on the "Eendracht."]. A contract for the marriage of Jan Jansen Damen and Adriana Cuveille was signed circa 30-Apr-1632; Prenuptual agreement. Jan Jansen Damen died on 18-Jun-1651 at at sea retruning to New Netherlands from the Netherlads.
             He immigrated between 1627 and 1635 to New Netherlands. On Feb-1643 Damen hosted a dinner at which the alcohol flowed steadily. The attendees were Maryn Adriansen, another former member of the council of 12, and step-sons-in-law Abraham Ver Planck and Cornelis Van Tienhoven. At a ripe moment Van Tienhoven pulled out a petition and had the others sign it. It was a petition to Kieft, urging him to attack a neighboring Indian tribe. Van Tienhoven took the signed petition to Kieft and then personally led the attack on the Indian village. That action led other tribes to retaliate and burn New Amsterdam. Abraham later denied knowledge of the incident, and Adriansen even tried to kill Kieft. [He had to pay a fine and was banished for 3 months.] Kieft appointed Damen to an 8-man council in 1644, but the other council members refused to accept him.

        He was was elected on the the Twelve Men and also of the Eight Men before 1649. On 1649 went to Holland with C. Van Tienhoven, to defend Stuyvesant against the complaist of Van der Donck and others, and died on his return trip.

                                                                                                    Dolor Davis was born circa 1599. He married Margery Willard, daughter of Richard Willard and Margery Humphrie, on 29-Mar-1624 at East Fairleigh, Kent, England. Dolor Davis married Joanna Hull, daughter of Rev. Joseph Hull. His estate was probated on 2-Jul-1673.
                                                                                                   Dolor Davis was also known as Dolar Davis. He was also known as Dolare Davice. In his will, dated July 13, 1614 an proved November 1, 1614, James Clark of East Farleigh, Kent, gentleman, bequeated to "Dolor Davis, my servant, my house and land lying in the parish of Mardenm, the which is the occupation of one Terrye".
                                                                                              He immigrated in 1634 to Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was as "Dollard Davis" was granted twenty-five acres on 4-Aug-1634 at Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He as "Dollard Davis" held two parcels of land in the land inventory: "one house lot of half a rood"; and "upon the west side of Charles River twenty & five acres Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts on 4-Jun-1635. He sold land as "Dollerd Davis" sold to Richard Girling "all the right he hath in five and twenty acres of land ... on the west side of Charles River" on 25-Aug-1635. On an unknown date, Dolor Davis disposed of his town lot to Simon Willard, and by 1639 Willard had sold it ot Edward Mitchelson. He resided at at Duxbury, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, in 1638. On 5-Mar-1638 Dolor Davis was propounded a freeman. He was in the Duxbury section of the 1639 list of those in Plymouth Colony who had taken the oath of fidelity (and then erased). Dolor Davis and seven other men were granted "the lands lying on the worwest side of the Northill in Duxborrow," the meadow there to be divided amongst tme by a committee on 6-Apr-1640. When some of the land was actually laid out, ther were eight other men, and Dolor Davis received fifty acres on 31-Aug-1640. He removed to at Scituate, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, in 1641. On 3-May-1641 Thomas Chambers, Dolor Davis and John Twisden all of Scituate, served as sureties fo Dolor's brother-in-law George Willard of Scituate, who had been fined for speaking disrespectfully of the magistrates.
                                                                                              He served on the petit jury on 1-Mar-1641/42. He removed to at Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, in 1643. "Dolor Davis, & his sons," were on the list of men able to bear arms in 1643 at Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. On 4-Jun-1645 Dolor Davis was propounded a freeman. On 2-Jun-1646 Dolor Davis was admitted as a freeman. He served on the grand jury (but noted "sick," so perhaps did not serve. On 4-Jun-1646 at Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. On August 27 1648, "Dolor Davis and His wife being dismissed from the church at Duxbury was joined to ours" at Barnstable. He held the position of surveyor of highways on 7-Jun-1652. He held the position of constable on 6-Jun-1654 at Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts. He removed to at Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1655. Dolor Davios was one of the first promotoers of the town of Groton, but he probably never resided there, as the only groton records we have for him were in 1655 and 1656, when he was residing in Concord. On May 16, 1656, Dolor Davis was one of eight men who signed a petition to the General Court, asking for some concessions in terms of settleing Groton. He held the position of seletman in 1655 at Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He bought from Roger Draper of Concord, husbandman bought ... all & all manner of those housings, lands, meadow and other appurtenances whatsoever belong thereunto lying and within the limits of Concord, the particulars wherof are as followeth, that is to say one parecl or lot of upland about his house containing by setimation twenty and three acres ... with ten acres more, leleven of which is meadow clled by the name of Mr. Martin's meadow, eight acres of it upland joining to the meadow on the northeast side next to the common with three acres of swamp meadow in it ..., also three acres of meadow more of less called by the name of stickfast meadow ..., more eight acres of meadow be it more of less lying in the meadow callet the fifty-acre meadow ..., also eightacres of upland. On 20-Aug-1655. On 17-Jul-1658 "Dolor Davis late of Barnstable..., house carpenter," sold to Abraham Blush of Barnstable, planter, "all that my houselot of lands with sundry ofther parcels of land" in Barnstable, as follows: "the said house lot lying by a place commonly called the old mill creek containing ten acres of upland..., with four acres of upland be it moreof less adjoining thereto ... and ten acres of marsh ..., alto fourteen acresof upland ... with eight acres mor of upland adjoing..., and also certain parcels of upland lying and being at a pace comonly called Kempton's Field, and also certain parcels of land lying and being at a place commonly called Stony Cove Field, viz: four acres of upland ..., also a parcel of upland containing seven acres ... and one acre of upland"; acknowledged ad Concord July 17, 1658 by "Dolar Davis and Margery his wife", acknowledged again at Barnstable Feb 16, 1667 by Dolor Davis alone.
                                                                                              On April 9, 1656 and May 9, 1656, "Dolar Davis of Concord" signed receipts to Abrahma Blush of Banrstable for cows, presumably as advane payment for these lands. He resided at at Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, in 1666. He left a will on 13-Sep-1672 at Barnstable, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.

                                                                                              "Dolar Davis" of Barnstable, "being weak and crazy in body," noting that "I having already given my son[s] Symon and Samuel their full portions and deeds for lands, 'bequeathed to 'my dear and loving wife Joanna' £5 tp be paid at Mr. Brattle's in Boston £4 to be paid in English commodities during the term of four years; to "my eldest son John my house and barn and outyard with several parcels of land lying in Concord ..., viz: all my land about the said house ... containing by estimation twenty acres more of less, as also a piece of upland and meadow containig six acres ..., as also thirteen acres of upland more or less, adjoining to my seven acres of meadow on one side, which said seven acres of meadow are also hereby bequeathed to him ..., as also thirty two acres of upland and swampyish meadow ..., as also five acres of upland," with additional conditions regarding the bequest to the testator's wife; "my son Symon shall have another crop after this year's from that piece of my land that lies near his house for which he is to pay" 20s; to "my son John a bill of four pounds due me from Roger Chandler of Concord to satisfy for the charges of my coming from Barnstable to Concord and to provide his son Joseph wh came to attend me," also "all my carpenter's tools and my serge suit and cloak"; to "my son-in-law Lewis my cloth suit and coat and hat and to my daughter Mary his wife a cow," also 50s. being half a note due from "my son Samuel," and the residue of household stuff "now in my dwelling house at Barnstable"; to "my daughter Ruth Hall besides what she hath recievced from me, a cow which her husband hath at present in his keeping," as also 50s., the other half of the note due from 'My son Samuel," they to pay 5s. "for me to William Butterick"; to the poor of the town where "it shall please God that I die, whether at Concord or at Barnstable," 10s;"my said son John the sole executor'"; "loving and respected friends William Burrerick, Richard Hassell, and Thomas Browne." opverseers. A codicil of the same date gave "unto my son John Davis twenty acres of woodland which by the twenty-seven acres which belongeth unto twenty men ... in the town of Concord"; "I do give my red mare unto my wife Joanne".


                                                                                              The Inventory of Dolor Davis was taken on 19-Jun-1673. On 4-Jul-1673 Plymouth court ordered "Mr Hinckley to take an oath of Joannah Davis, widow, at Barnstable, for the truth of the inventory of the estate of Dolar Davis, deceased, which inventory bears the date of June 19, 1673. At the same court, "John Davis is allowed and approved by the Court to be executor to the estate fo Dolar Davis, deceased". On 5-Jul-1673 "John Davis, son and sole executor f the last will & testament of Dollar Davis, late of Barnstable in Plymouth Colony deceased, is empowered to adminster on any part of his father's estate that shall be bound in this colony, discharging all debts and duties due & owing from the said estate & bringing in a true infentory as the law directs."
                                                                                              The "inventory of the estate of Dollar Davis deceased, within the bounds of Concord in the county of Middlesex," taken July 8, 1673, totalled £119 19s. 7d., of which £113 was real estate; "the housing and houselot, 20 acres, "£60; "six acres of upland & meadow more adjacent," £7; 'seven acres of meadow in the eleven-acre meadow with 13 acres of upland adjancent," £26; "five acres of uland near John Heald's broken up and fenced in," ?12; "twenty acres of land in that tract of land called the twenty," £3 and "thirty-two acres of second division land," £5.
