Daniel Covenhoven and Grace his wife sell to Reese Thomson her one fifth share of Matthew’s estate for twenty pounds. Witnesses are Patrick Galbraith, William Harvey, John Utley. Recorded Feb 1804.





Daniel's left a will on Jun 28, 1838 at Shirley Twp., Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. The petition of David Gilliland was read setting forth that about the year 1838 Daniel Crownover late of Shirley township Huntingdon county died having in his lifetime made his last will and testament which was duly admitted to probate after his death in which it was ordered and devised as follows, to wit: ?this is to witness that I Daniel Crownover of the township and county aforesaid doth will and bequeath the whole of my property and possessions as follows viz: my wife and daughter Susan are to have their living and support during life, and the remainder of my property to be equally divided among my five other children. It is further my will and desire that my son Thomas shall remain on the farm he now occupies on the same conditions that he has it for the present year, and further that my son Peter shall have possession of the farm on which I now live. to keep his Mother and Sister Susan with him, to provide for and take care of them in an honest and just manner, and to be paid for his necessary expense and trouble as above directed in this will. He is to work the land in a farmer like manner, and to have the same bargain and condition of his brother Thomas. And appointed his sons Matthew and Thomas executors of his will. After the death of the testator an amicable partition was made of his real estate among his four sons Matthew, Thomas, Benjamin, and Peter, and his daughter Mary intermarried with the petitioner being the parties entitled under the will. The widow resided with the petitioner and his wife from the death of the testator until her death a period of about years. Susan Crownover who is mentioned in the will and who is an Idiot, has also resided with petitioner and still resides with him and is maintained entirely by him, She refusing to reside with any other member of the family. by an agreement among the heirs the maintenance of said idiot was fixed at thirty five dollars per year each agreeing to pay to the petitioner the annual sum of seven dollars in addition to which he claims the sum of dollars for the maintenance of the widow and funeral expenses incurred. The greater part of the sums so agreed upon and claimed is still in arrears as will appear by the statement here unto filed. Thomas Crownover has since died and letters of administration have been granted to Peter Crownover his brother, Benjamin Crownover is also dead. That portion of the real estate taken by him, was sold during his lifetime at Sheriffs Sale to A P Wilson sq and by him conveyed to Edward Zerner the present owner and prayed the court to grant a __ __ on the heirs and legal representatives of Daniel Crownover deceased and those holding the lands so charged as aforesaid to show cause why an order should not be made for the payment of the said several sums out of the said real estate so devised, according to the provisions of the act of assembly passed the 23 day of February 1853 ( ??? Ed 1853 p 214) returnable on the second Monday of August next. Whereupon 18 April 1854 it is considered by the court and ???? to to show cause & awarded agreeably to the prayer of the petitioner by the court.

The petition of David Gilliland by Scott & Brown & Bailey his attorneys was read setting forth, that Daniel Crownover late of Shirley township deceased died about the year 1838, having in his lifetime made his will, which was duly admitted to probate after his death, in and by which he did make the support of his daughter Susan Crownover, a charge on his real estate devised to his children therein named. That soon after his death an amicable partition of the real estate was made between his four sons Matthew, Thomas Benjamin and Peter and his daughter Mary Gilliland the wife of petitioner. Peter Crownover having bought the share of Matthew Crownover he was allotted two fifths of shares in the partition, and he has since conveyed to Jeremiah Shoup who is now the owner of that portion of the real estate.

William Logan having bought the share of Thomas Crownover and died intestate leaving a widow Ellen Logan and three children, Sarah aAnn, John and Dennis. The said children who are minors having George (F?) Wakefield for their guardian who has recently sold said real estate to Edward Withington. Benjamin Crownover?s share having been sold at Sheriffs sale to A P Wilson Esqr he sold the same to Edward Zerner who is now the owner of that share. The other share is owned by the petitioner in right of his wife. sometime after the death of Daniel Crownover the boarding of said Susan Crownover was fixed at $35 per year by an arrangement among the heirs and she has resided with and been entirely supported by your petitioner ever since refusing to reside with any of the others. Petitioner admits that payment has been made on the share held by Jeremiah Shoup up to May 1st 1865, the share of E Wingate up to 1stApril 1864, the share held by E Zerner to May 1st 1861 of their several proportions at the rate of $35 per year, but alleges that the said sum was only to cover the boarding and the claims for clothing and other expenses at the rate of ($25) hardly $5 per annum. he further states that the said Susan Crownover has always been and still is unsound in mind as will appear by reference to the testimony attached to the report of A W Benedict auditor on a similar application filed to No 2376 in the Orphans Court files of 1854, and that owing to the great advance in prices and the increasing infirmities of the said lunatic the sums above named are totally insufficient for her support. He therefore prays your Honor to make an order, touching the payment of the sums due under the charge aforesaid and if necessary to appoint an auditor to take testimony and make report to the Court. Whereupon august 19th A D 1865 it was considered petition read and subpoena awarded by the court.
