RICHMOND, Ind. -- Bess M. Keever, age 94, of Richmond, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, at Friends Fellowship Community.

Born Jan. 2, 1913, in Rowan County, Ky., to Charles and Molly Coldiron Basford, she was a resident of this area since 1935.

Bess was a department manager at the Hoosier Store and Elder-Beerman. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, former Girl Scout Leader and vice president of United Methodist Church District.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Higgs and husband Bill of The Villages, Fla., and Norma Carnes Schroeder of Richmond; nine grandchildren, Jeff Carnes, Sallye Creech and husband James (Art), Lisa Simmons and companion Rick Barth, Julie Stout and husband David, Amy Shake and husband Dave, Jenni Higgs, Rana Vetor and husband Tom, Mike Cormican, and Holly Farley; 15 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, Herbert Basford and wife Janice of Richmond; sister, Rose Stevens of Phoenix, Ariz; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Keever, who died in 1994; one daughter, Jean Nelson; one brother; one sister; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Private family service for Bess M. Keever will be held at the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum followed by entombment. Bess's nephew, Timothy Basford, and Chaplain Maureen McCarthy will officiate.
