Jessie Carter Davar died on May 21, 1995 at the Snake River Rehab. & Living Ctr., Buhl, Twin Falls County, Idaho, at age 67; The Twin Falls Paper (5-24-95) gave this obituary: 'Jess (Jim) DeVar, 67, of Buhl, died Sunday, May 21, 1995, at the Snake River Rehabilitation and Living Center in Buhl. 'He was born April 6, 1928, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to David and Nellie Darland DeVar. He married Barbara Bowman on Nov 14, 1980. He enjoyed camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Buhl; and 13 step-children. He was preceded in death by a sister and two step grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the West End Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Farmer Funeral Chapel in Buhl.'
The Buhl Herald (5-31-95) gave the same, with the exception of the last paragraph, which read: 'A graveside service was held May 25, at the West End Cemetery in Buhl.'
The Snake River Rehab. & Living Center is a Long-Term Care Facility. He was there for a month.
Barbara DeVar, shared that he had been in poor health for several years. He'd had a heart attack (about 1983) in which he'd stopped breathing and the doctor's had used electric shock to resuscitate him. Jessie (Jim) later told Barbara that he had an 'out of body' experience at that time. He recalled that he could see the doctor's performing the shock therapy / treatment, then he felt himself struggling & found that the nurses were helping to hold him. Jessie was buried on May 25, 1995 at the West End Cemetary, Buhl, Twin Falls County, Idaho.
     On between 1940 and 1945 Traveled The exact date and purpose of his trip is unknown. Jim and Marlene Kissling remember that Albert Reid had to send Jess the money (or ticket) for his return passage. In later years he told his wife Barbara that he had been in Cuba, but didn't give any details.
In December, 1995, his widow, Barbara DeVar, spoke with his daughter, Terri Rene. Barbara described her husband, 'Jim' as a very giving and loving person. He loved children a great deal and had helped raise six step-children with his wife Juanita and then five of Barbara's seven children. His youngest step-daughter named her son 'David Benjamin' to honor his father. Jessie (Jim) once cried when he saw a child being punished for something the child had not done.
He enjoyed collecting different things, amongst them: model cars, small stuffed toys, Avon bottles & key chains.
Jessie (Jim) was a great story teller. He could 'charm hair off a cat.' Barbara related that when they went to rent a house that was for sale, he negotiated the following: Rent was about $150 a month, if they paid an extra $50 a month toward the down payment could they then buy the house? The owner agreed, and they bought the house under those terms and with $1 down.
He was very intelligent (both his widow Barbara and his niece Marlene commented on this). His math skills were very good, he could add a list of figures in his head, such as when his wife was paying the bills, and was not dependent on a calculator or even paper & pen. But he couldn't spell, he mixed-up his letters. He said, once, that he had graduated from High School while in prison (probably San Quinton - he said it was the jail where Johnny Cash used to sing); he was jailed for passing bad checks.

      David Benjamin Davar was born on Jan 13, 1889 at Center Point, Polk Township, Linn County, Iowa. David married Nellie Frances Darland, daughter of Carter Bailey Darland and Nettie Jane Cochran. David Benjamin Davar died on Feb 10, 1966 at the Virginia Bay Hospital, Benton County, Iowa, at age 77; Cause of death was pneumonia due to traumatic injury to chest; conjestive heart failure. He was hospitalized four days prior to his death. David was buried on Feb 12, 1966 at Center Point city cemetery, Linn County, Iowa.
     On an unknown date David Benjamin Dever AKA In a letter from Marlene Kissling it states: his birth certificate ' was made out in 1943 and his name on that was DaVar. His sister verified that she was there at the time of his birth and had seen records in the family Bible. She also said that great grandpa Jess spelled his name DaVar. I suppose that was so grandpa could get it on the birth certificate the way he wanted but I don't know. '
When he married in 1910, he used the surname Dever. In 1914 he named his son Lyle Dever, then in 1917 he named his daughter with the surname DaVar, and continued using DaVar until his death. His wife's obituary also uses the name DaVar, although she used the Dever spelling. Both he and his wife are burried with the name Dever.

      George Cochran Jr. was born in 1807 at Possibly, Berkeley County, West Virginia; He was raised, 'grew to manhood and married', in Pickaway County, Southern Ohio. (The county is just south of Columbus, OH, organized 12 Jan 1810 from the parent counties of Ross, Fairfield & Franklin.)
