Mr. J.K.P. Conover's death, which occurred at the home of his son, Jo Z. Conover, Monday night of last week, was not known at this office Tuesday morning until a few minutes before the News went to press, hence only mention of his demise was made.

Mr. Conover was born and reared in about one and one-half miles South of Columbia, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Conover. He grew to manhood on his father's farm, and when the civil war broke out he espoused the cause of the Union, entered the Federal army, making a gallant soldier until he received his discharge. In battle he was wounded in one of his thighs, and the wound had not thoroughly healed when he returned home. As soon as he was able, he resumed farming.

A short time after the war he was married to Miss Dorinda Taylor, a sister of Dr. S.A. Taylor, Joppa, this county. He later bought a farm in the neighborhood where he married, and on this plantation is where his children were reared. His wife died in Columbia while her husband was Jailer of the county, and the children who survive him are Flavious, S.R., Dr. P.H. of Elizabethtown, and Jo Z. Conover, and one daughter, Mrs. N.H. Moss, of Gradyville. There are also a number of grand children and one brother, Mr. S.B. Conover, who lives a short distance from this place.

The deceased was a member of the Christian Church, and his walk though life was marked for good citizenship and christian character. As a soldier he was fearless and obedient to those in command. There are about six comrades yet living in Adair county and they all speak of him in the highest terms. He was a most accommodating neighbor, at all times ready to do his bit for charity, and it is said he never turned a friend aside who asked for a favor at his hands. He served this county eight years as Jailer, making a very efficient officer.

Funeral services were held at Pleasant Hill, Wednesday forenoon, conducted by Eld. Z.T. Williams, assisted by Eld. F.J. Barger. Many relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to one who had been honest in all his dealings and who had lived a Christian life from early manhood to a ripe old age, being about seventy-five years old. To the surviving sons and daughter, The News extends its profoundest sympathy. His body rests in Pleasant Hill cemetery, and his spirit has returned to the God who gave it

Smith and Martha Webb, on Apr 24, 1912. Dr. Peter Harlan Conover died on Nov 8, 1951 at Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky, at age 68. Peter was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky.

Lura married Dr. Peter Harlan Conover, son of James Knox Polk Conover and Ann Dorinda Taylor, on Apr 24, 1912. Lura Smith died on Mar 8, 1948 at Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky, at age 57. Lura was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky.

      Wilbur Smith Conover was born on Mar 30, 1916 at Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky. He was the son of Dr. Peter Harlan Conover and Lura Smith. Wilbur married Rebecca Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Peter Nolan Wilson and Leucretia Browning, on Sep 9, 1939. Wilbur Smith Conover died in Sep, 1984 at Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky, at age 68.

Rebecca married Wilbur Smith Conover, son of Dr. Peter Harlan Conover and Lura Smith, on Sep 9, 1939. Rebecca Elizabeth Wilson died on Aug 8, 1991 at Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky, at age 75.

     Michael Evans Conover was the son of Wilbur Smith Conover and Rebecca Elizabeth Wilson. Michael married Judith Carol Rowland on May 25, 1963.
