--The Rev. Dr. Garrett V. Stryker of Wales, who served as teacher and dean at the American International College for more than thirty years, died last night in Springfield Hospital at the age of 86.
Born in Bound Brook, N.J., Dr. Stryker joined the American International College in 1908, and served there until 1940, when he retired after a three-year term as dean. Dr. Stryker attended Princeton
University, and in 1894 entered business in Kansas City as secretary of the Western Investment Company, later moving to New York with the company. He became pastor of the Church of Christ in Williamstown, Mass., in 1896 and served there until 1903.
He was ordained into the Congregational Church in 1903 and served until 1908 as a pastor at Mill River. He also served as pastor of the Wachogue Community Church, was a member of the Holland Society of New York, the National Society of Bible Instructors, the American School of Oriental Research and the Springfield Rotary Club. He was a thirtysecond degree Mason.
Besides his educational activity in Springfield, Dr. Stryker contributed to the religious field in the Connecticut Valley and was a former president of the Valley Congregational Club.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dora Graham Martin Stryker; two sons, Garrett B. of New York and Orville T. of Syracuse, N. Y. ; a stepson, John G. Martin of Orange, Conn.
