VIRGINIA - Elizabeth A. "Betty" Bruno, 98 years, of Virginia died Saturday evening, Sept. 29, 2007, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 5, 1908, in Virginia, the daughter of Harry H. and Frances Chittick Conover. She married Frank Alvin Bruno on Feb. 20, 1949, in Virginia; he preceded her in death on June 22, 1974.

She is survived by a niece, Carol Anne Cota of Springfield; two nephews, Herbert C. Snow (wife, Linda) of Virginia and the Rev. Harold Edwin Snow (wife, Kathy) of Chattanooga, Tenn; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; four great-great-nieces; four great-great-nephews; two great-great-great-nieces and -nephews; a cousin; and several caregivers who provided home health services. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Kathleen Snow.

Mrs. Bruno was a 1926 graduate of Virginia High School and studied at Penn Hall in Chambersburg, Pa., Milwaukee-Downer College and graduated from Simmons College in Boston with a bachelor of science degree in 1931. She was employed 14 years as a librarian for Lincoln Library, serving in many capacities.

She was a member of Virginia United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, and United Methodist Women, where she held several offices both locally and at the conference level. She also was a member of Beardstown Chapter GU of the PEO Sisterhood, a charter member of the friends of Virginia Memorial Public Library, the Vachel Lindsay Association and Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Virginia United Methodist Church, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday.
