      Mary supposedly married her cousin Guisbert Lane, & moved with him to Albany, NY.

     Eleanor Lane was the daughter of Garret Lane and Mayke Sutphen. Eleanor married Samuel Lee before 1803. Eleanor Lane died after 1803.
     She was also known as Nelly Lane.

     John Lane was the son of Garret Lane and Mayke Sutphen. John married Mary (Unknown) before 1777. John Lane died in 1791 at Bedminster, Somerset County, New Jersey; John's will of 13 Jul 1791 and probated 18 Sep 1791 directs his real estate to be sold, and his four young children to be educated, but does not name them except his son Jacob. His executors were his uncle Matthias Lane Sr., the latters son Matthias Lane Jr. and Simon Vleet; witnessed by Robert Blair and Aaron Lane (John's brother).
      According to the will of his sister Ann, John had (living in 1781) these children: Jane, Sarah, Jacob, and Ann.

      Aaron Van Dorn Lane was born on Jun 6, 1792 at Somerset County, New Jersey. He was the son of Aaron Lane and Sarah Van Dorn. Aaron married Phoebe (Unknown). Aaron Van Dorn Lane died on May 12, 1855 at age 62. Aaron was buried after May 12, 1855 at New Burlington Cemetery, Hamilton County, Ohio.
      Aaron and John, his brother, were given 38 acres of land in Hamilton Co, OHIO by their grandfather Aaron Van Doren.

A story that Aaron and John were playing in the woods one day about 1803 when Indians came along. Aaron was up a tree and was captured by the Indians and taken away to the area around Lake Michigan. Several years later a traveler stopped by the parents cabin and told them of a Caucasian boy living with the Indians. The father, Aaron Lane, went up north and bartered for the boy, who didn't want to leave with his father but eventually did. The boy retained many of his Indian habits and was called "Indian Pete." He was said to have married and lived back in the woods. Another source says that Aaron was never found. This story is from Frank P. Lane, who heard it from his grandfather, Abraham Crum Lane in 1894. Have letter from Frank.

According to manuscript notes, Aaron was tried and expelled from his church for his anti-slavery stand, after which most other Lanes also withdrew. (possible this refers to this Aaron's father, but dates given are for this Aaron) The Lanes worked under Levi Coffin, a Quaker from Cincinnati, in helping with the underground railroad. Their house, at Hamilton and Mill, was a stop on the RR.
One source says Jan. 6 as birth date, but gravestone and most sources give June 6.

      John Lane was born on Jan 27, 1793 at Somerset County, New Jersey. He was the son of Aaron Lane and Sarah Van Dorn. John married Rosanah Crum, daughter of Abraham Crum and Mary Whitinger, on Sep 14, 1815 at Wayne County, Indiana. John married Rosanah Crum, daughter of Abraham Crum and Mary Whitinger, on Sep 16, 1815 at Wayne County, Indiana. John Lane died on Jun 4, 1880 at Mount Healthy, Hamilton County, Ohio, at age 87. John was buried after Jun 4, 1880 at New Burlington Cemetery, Hamilton County, Ohio.
      In 1826 John and his brother Aaron were given 38 acres in Hamilton County, OH, by their grandfather Aaron Van Doren.

Family tradition says that one day John was sitting on his porch when he saw a girl on horseback ride by going to fetch a doctor for her mother. John went along to help, and the girl, Rosanah Crum, became his wife... They lived on a farm on Mill Creek, one mine north of Mt. Healthy, Ohio.

From Clark Lane's "Reminiscential" it appears that John was a smith or at least did some smithing and they had a one room log house on a farm. It was located at the junction of Hamilton Avenue and Mill Road, just south of the New Burlington Cemetery. The property was still in the family hands in 1907. John and his sons made a reaping machine, wagons, and other machinery. John Lane stone blacksmith shop, supposed to have been built in 1813, still stands a mile north of Mt. Healthy.

Hamilton Avenue might have been built along the route or "trace" cut by General St. Clair to the north during his Indian campaigns. It was the main road between Cincinnati and Hamilton and Mt. Healthy was located about 1/2 between Fort Hamilton and Fort Washington (Cincinnati).

The New Burlington Cemetery, where many Lanes are buried, is located on Mill Road, just north of the junction with Hamilton Ave., probably on or next to the original Lane farm.

The Lane home was said to be a stop on the Underground Railroad, and the Lanes worked with Levi Coffin, a Quaker, who organzied the RR through Cincinnati.
