Henry Lake was born on May 31, 1836 at Bargaintown, Atlantic County, New Jersey. He was the son of Mark Lake and Fransanna Frambes. Henry married Jennie Kearney on Sep 14, 1869. Henry Lake died on Apr 13, 1905 at age 68.

Henry Lake served throughout the Civil War was a member of Company B of the first New Jersey Cavalry, and lost an arm in the Battle of the Wilderness. He was always prominent in G. A. R. Affairs.
