He was graduated from the U.S. Naval academy, Annapolis, Md., in 1865; was commissioned ensign, Dec. 1, 1866; promoted master, March 12, 1868; lieutenant, March 26, 1869, and lieutenant-commander, Nov. 15, 1881. He was married, Nov. 23, 1880, to Pauline Lentilhon, daughter of Peter and Eliza (Lentillion) King of New York city, and his daughter, Cornelia Stockton, was married in 1900 to Lieut. Frederick A. Trent, U.S.N. He was made a member of the commission to select a naval station in Puget Sound, 1888; was in command of the Thetis, 1889-91, visiting the Arctic regions, as far as the mouth of the Mackenzie river; promoted commander, April 3, 1892; was second [p.34] in command at the Naval War college, Newport, R.I., 1892-95, and also lecturer on international law and naval subjects, and was in command of the Yorktown, Asiatic station, 1895-97. He was appointed president of the Naval War college, Newport, R.I., Dec. 27, 1897; promoted captain, U.S.N., July 8, 1899, and assigned to the command of the battle-ship Kentucky, Asiatic station, 1902-03. Stockton, United States Navy, President of the Naval War College, took place at noon to-day at the Zabriskie Memorial Church of St. John the Evangelist, with the Rev. Mr. Beattie officiating.
The bride's gown was of white satin, with a long train, and was cut quite plain. She wore a lace veil, the same that was worn by her mother, and carried Bride roses.
Lieut. Powers Symington, United States Navy, a classmate of the groom, was best man. The ushers were Capt. Theodore H. Low, United states Marine Corps; Lieut. Alfred W. Hinds, United States Navy; Frank Traut of New Britain, Conn., and Herbert Stockton, a brother of the bride. The maid of honor was Miss Helen Stockton, a sister of the bride, and the bridesmaids were Miss Elsie Pillsbury of Boston, Miss Alice Macomber of Brookline, Miss Ruth Searing of New York. and Miss Daisy Slosson of Geneva, N. Y. The maid of honor was gowned in white mousseline de sole over white silk, and wore a large white hat trimmed with pink roses. The bridesmaids wore pink muslin over white, with large white hats trimmed with pink roses and carried large bouquets of pink roses and ferns.
Following the ceremony at the church a small informal reception was held at the War College. In the afternoon the couple started on their wedding trip. and were given a very hearty send-off from the college.

Griggs and Sarah Brush, on Jan 3, 1838 at New Jersey; by Rev. Joseph H. Jones. Garnett Bowditch Adrain died on Aug 17, 1878 at South Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, at age 62. Garnett was buried at Van Liew Cemetery, New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey.
He was also known as Garnet Bowditch Adrian.
ADRAIN, Garnett Bowditch, a Representative from New Jersey; born in New York City December 15, 1815; moved with his parents to New Brunswick, N.J; attended the public schools; was graduated from Rutgers College, New Brunswick, in 1833; studied law in the office of his brother; was licensed as an attorney in 1836 and as a counselor in 1839; commenced the practice of law in New Brunswick, N.J; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-fifth Congress and as an Anti-Lecompton Democrat to the Thirty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1857-March 3, 1861); chairman, Committee on Engraving (Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses); was not a candidate for reelection in 1860; resumed the practice of his profession; died in New Brunswick, Middlesex County, N.J., August 17, 1878; interment in Van Liew Cemetery.
