Ruth had a keen eye for interior design and furnished her home with many interesting antiques. Her job as a homemaker was very important to her and she often entertained Dave's friends and family with care and thoughtfulness.

Elizabeth T. Damico, 74, of Melbourne Fla., and formerly of Haleyville died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in the Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne after a lengthy illness.

Born in Haleyville, she was the daughter of the late John and Rhoda Bradway Fidler, and the wife of the late Dominick Damico. Mrs. Damico lived in Florida for the last 30 years. She was a homemaker and loved and raised her children by herself for the last 33 years as a widow. Her faith in Christ not only impacted her children's lives, but also blessed all those who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Damico of Melbourne, Fla; sons, James Damico of Cherryville, N.C. and Dominick Damico of Merritt Island, Fla; sisters, Reba Baglio of Mauricetown and Donna Fidler of Show Low, Ariz; three grandchildren, Letha Powell, Jamie Damico and Rebecca Damico; two great-grandchildren, Emily Rose and Benjamin Rose Jr.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, 2507 High St., Port Norris. Interment will be at Haleyville Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that your memorial giving be made to House of Prayer International, 1520 Bottlebrush Drive NE, Palm Bay FL 32905. Giving will be directed to Tom and Wanda Shaw Missionaries to Honduras in representation of her love of missions and her support of this couple's 21 years of dedicated service to the Lord.

I graduated from Glassboro State College with a BA in Elementary Education , and taught 28 years in Commercial Township School District. I have many fond memories of my early teaching career, beginning with the first year when the schools were integrated. Students were bussed from South Port Norris to the small two-room school at the corner in Haleyville. This was known as the first Haleyville School. It contained two large rooms, and there was no indoor plumbing until much latter. I recall having to make a seating chart so the two races would begin to mingle together. At first I had a segregated classroom, as the students would only hang around others of the same race. I was so relieved when they started to make friends with each other It was one of the most challenging experiences of my teaching career.

My mothers' love for Jesus, and her insistence on our attending Sunday School each week was another memorable incident in my life. My brother used to ride us on his bicycle the five miles to the church in Haleyville. I rode on the handle bars, and my sister Betty rode on the back fender. Betty often amuses people with her memories about Jack and the mad dog stories he would tell us on the way to church. However, the time spent in church was well worth the effort, as I gave my life to the Lord at an early age, and have served him faithfully ever since then, except for a few years when I didn't walk the walk. I feel , however, this upbringing helped me in my years as a teacher, and gave me a lot of compassion when dealing with those who were less fortunate than myself. Teaching Sunday School, and being a church clerk has also been a rewarding experience which I've enjoyed for several years.

My Mother taught me, by example, the need to be an active member of the community. She was the President of the local " P.T.A," and the President of "The Ladies Aid Society" for several years.
I remember being there at these meetings, and feeling so proud of my mother.

Although we were not a wealthy family, Mother taught us that real wealth came from our relationship with the Lord, and that we should always be content with what we had. She instilled the values of hard work, love, and respect for others in our lives. We all tried to please her in our daily lives.
She expected this of us, and we didn't want to disappoint her We all loved her so very much.
