Mary Elizabeth Woolf was born 23 Apr. 1872, daughter of William Isaac Woolf and Ellen Marie Hyde. As a small child she was badly burned by the hired girl accidentaly having upset a pan of boil ing water on her. She had to be carried on a pillow for weeks fo llowing the accident, and suffered poor health thereafter. Seeing Elizabeth in such poor health her Aunt Mary and Uncle Joh n Woolf invited her to come and spend the summer with them in Al berta where the climate might help her. She was about nineteen w hen she made the journey, comimg with John Woolf, her cousin, an d his family. Before Elizabeth left home her mother read her for tune, telling her she would meet and marry a man with a red must ache. Soon she met and fell in love with David William Rollins, who was the possessor of a beautiful full red mustache. After the summer Elizabeth returned home and David attended the Agricultural College at Logan. The following spring they were ma rried in the Logan Temple before going to Cardston to Live. Davi d worked in Mercantile store for a time. Then freighted materials into Montana when the dam on the St. Marys River at Many Glaci ers was being built. It was winter time and driving a string of horses over the poor roads was challenging and hazardous. David loved horses and owned some very good ones, driving a clas sy democrat and hating to see any other outfit faster
than his. Of course the boys would urge him on while Elizabeth would hold on for dear life. An incident sometimes related was about an Indian that came to
the Rollins home asking if he could stay overnight. The family fe lt sorry for him, fed him, and arranged a place on the floor for him to sleep. In the morning he had gone before they were up. T hey learned later that he was on the run after having killed a M ounted Policeman and the force were out in strength looking for him. Elizabeth said he was a very polite and quiet person. Later they learned that his name was CHARCOAL, who appears prominentl y in the areas history.

David and Elizabeth built a log house in Cardston. In it, in spi te of her poor health, Elizabeth had eight children. A second ho me two and one half miles east, on the homestead, was also used by the family for a number of years. David was always active in church work, filling many positions. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang regularly in the choir, and in special musical programs and operettas. He spent many yea rs as a missionary and as a Temple worker. David suffered a stro ke during their Golden Anniversary year, passing away 9th. Dece mber 1942 at seventy four. Elizabeth followed 16th. January 1953 at eighty one. Despite her health challenges she was always a quiet, sweet, understanding, compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, loved and appreciated by all.

This record has been extracted from the journal (Which is in my possession) grandson "Leroy Rollins ". I lived with mys grandparents David William and Mary Elizabet h for a number of high school years. A BRIEF HISTORY OF DAVID WILLIAM ROLLINS:David William related an experience that transpired shortly
afte r the family of Enoch Perham Rollins were sent by the Prophet Br igham Young to open up a new settlement in Spanish Fork. A party of war braves arrived at the new family camp demanding food. Fa ther Enoch was away from the camp, and when no food was forthcom ing, the Indians siezed David William, about five years old, and his older brother Joseph Hyrum. The boys were placed on horses, behind two Indian Braves, and in his words, terrified, fearing they were going to be scalped and slain. They rode all day, making camp late that evening. As they lay down to sleep for the ni ght, Davids brother impressed upon him that he was not to go to sleep. When the Indians all seemed well into sound slumber, they boys very quietly made their way from the captivity, walking al l night toward what they felt was the direction of their home. T hey hid during the next day, travelling again by night, even the n fearing they would be recaptured, eventually being able to fin d their camp and rejoin their family. David emigrated to Canada from Washington State, arriving at Cardston 5 Nov. 1988 at 20 years of age. He returned to Utah in 189 0 and attended Brigham Young College at Logan for two years. He married his sweetheart Mary Elizabeth Woolf and the young couple returned to Canada April 1892.

David Leroy sometimes told of a brush with death he experienced when he was a boy. This experience is recorded in the family his tory of Elizabeth Holland, as follows. Dad would have been 10 ye ars old. From the diary of Elizabeth Brown Holland, Cavell's gra ndmother. 30th Oct. 1904 was a Sunday and a family were visiting with us. Frank and Lloyd were missing for dinner. Soon after Fr ank came running down the hill and sat down by the well at the b ack of the house. We went to see what was wrong, he was now havi ng convultions. Charles Woolf was up the hill calling for some o ne to bring him some water. We learned afterward that Lloyd, Fra nk, Charles, and LeRoy, had gone up the hill where a lot of hous ehold goods were sitting out, waiting for the house to be finish ed so the people could move in. Amongst these was a box of bottl es of beer. Each of the boys opened one of the bottles. One of the boys said his bottle tasted funny, and passed it to LeRoy. He tasted it, and spit it out. Somehow a bottle of strichnine had found it's way in with the beer. When the two who had drunk the poison became violently ill the boys did not want the parents to know about their problems thinking that they were only drunk. B y the time the Doctor got there it was too late. Charles Woolf a nd Frank Hinman died about two hours later.
