Marell Waite Huntsman 1916-2009 Marell Waite Huntsman, 92, of Boise, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home Friday, July 17, 2009. Marell was born July 27, 1916 at Mt. Glen, Ore. to Appy Leo Waite and Christiana Ella Whiting Waite. She grew up in the La Grande, Ore. area with five of her brothers; she also had two half-brothers. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1933 and Eastern Oregon Normal School in 1935 with a life time teaching certificate. She taught school for five years in a one room school house where she was principal, teacher and custodian. She boarded with her students' families, earning $75 a month which she thought was extravagant wages. She served an LDS mission in the Great Lakes area. She married Conrad C. Huntsman April 3, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They became the parents of 10 children; five daughters and five sons, raising their family in La Grande, Ore. She was a stay at home mom to raise her large family. She and Conrad moved to Boise in 1984 to work in the Boise Temple. Marell was always active in the LDS Church. She worked for 25 years as a teacher in the Guide Patrol (Scout) program, plus she taught in other church organizations. She and her husband worked in the Boise Temple for over 20 years. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play in various sporting events. She was a big fan of Eastern Oregon State College football (while her son played) and of BSU football and basketball. She traveled many miles to attend family members' special church blessings, baptisms, events and school graduations. She enjoyed gardening and canning and freezing the produce produced. Her frozen raspberry jam was the best and she shared freely. Our mother was always patient, loving and caring. Not once did we EVER hear her raise her voice! If she was upset she would shake her finger at us and we knew we'd better shape up. It has been a pleasure, this spring and summer, for us to take care of Mom so she could remain in her home. She was always alert with an active mind, recognizing every member of her family until the end. Every day she said thank you to her children, their spouses and grandchildren and friends who were caring for her. A very special thank you goes to her eldest child, Janice, who has lived in the home for years and had the main care for Mom and Dad. Marell is survived by her daughters and sons, Janice Green of Boise, Joyce (Douglas) Higley of Emmett, John (JoAnn) of Athena, Ore., Kathleen (Wayne) Jensen of Sutherlin, Ore., David (Elizabeth) of Baker City, Ore., E. Christine (Gerry) Rogalsky of Boise, Vaughn (Elaine) of Rock Springs, Wyo., Loren (Shelly) of Lyman, WY, Donna Huntsman of Boise; 51 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren (with four on the way), and a half brother, Russell Waite of Pendleton, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Conrad; her son, Warren Frank; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Hearts for Hospice staff who so lovingly helped us care for Mother this spring and summer. Conrad C. Huntsman, 88, of Boise, died Jan. 29, 2006.

His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Boise Cherry Lane LDS Chapel, 3020 Cherry Lane. Visitations will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church on Friday prior to the service. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in La Grande at noon PST Saturday.

Conrad was born on Dec. 29, 1917, at Provo, Utah, to Emery Huntsman and Elsie Caroline Shipp. He grew up in Baker City and was a 1936 Baker High School graduate. He served an LDS mission in the Great Lakes area.

He married Marell Waite on April 3, 1942, at the Salt Lake City Temple. They raised their family in La Grande. He worked as a warehouse foreman for La Grande Fruit Co. for 25 years. He held various other jobs through the years. He moved to Boise in 1984 to work in the Boise Temple.

He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren playing in various sporting events. He traveled many miles to attend family members' special church events and graduations. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and walking.

He was a master gardener, raising a garden every year until he was 85. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, the Brigham Young University Cougars, Boise State University Broncos, Utah Jazz, and Atlanta Braves. He loved telling stories, and talking to people.

He was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Boise 14th Ward.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 64 years, Marell of Boise; his children and their spouses, Jan Green of Boise, Joyce and Douglas Higley of Emmett, Idaho, John and JoAnn of Athena, Kathleen and Wayne Jensen of Sutherlin, David and Betty of Baker City, E. Christine and Gerry Rogalsky of Boise, Vaughn and Elaine of Rock Springs, Wyo., Loren and Shelly of Lyman, Wyo., and Donna Huntsman of Boise; 54 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; a brother, D. Felton of Seattle, Wash; and a brother-in-law, Russell Waite of Pendleton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Warren Frank; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
