She identifies herself as the 'stock holder' at the ho rse shows and rodeos, otherwise staying home to keep hous e and enjoy sewing, crafts and her flowers. Outstanding man in ag.       Susanna Kawulok was born on May 6, 1886 at Istebna, Teschin District, Schlesien Prov., Austria. Susanna married Joseph Frank Ligocki in 1911 at Church of the Good Shepherd, Istebna, Teschin District, Poland. Susanna Kawulok died on Feb 25, 1935 at Sheridan, Sheridan County, Wyoming, at age 48; influenza. Susanna was buried on Feb 27, 1935 at Sheridan Municipal Cemetery, Sheridan, Sheridan County, Wyoming.
1913 March 12, Susanna Ligocki and daughter Anna, and sister-in-law Yadwiga Ligocki arrived in New York aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II. My Mom.....by Susie Morris Mom was born May 6th 1886 in Istebna, Austria. She had a sister Elizabeth and a brother that died at a young age. I don't know his name, he was sickly. Couldn't do much work, so he would bend wire and make crochet hooks, also knitting needles for Mom when she was just a smallgirl. Mom would take the cows and geese out to pasture in the National forest(when not in school) and while herding them, she would crochet for other people. They would buy the thread or spin it. As she got older she raised flax for linen thread, spun it, and make table clothes, sheets, also material for her clothes. She worked in Germany on a huge dairy farm where they employed about 20 girls. The lived in a large room (like a barracks above the cows in the barn). The girls milked all the cows, cleaned the barn, fed the hay. It had to be shining clean at all times, cause they didn't know when the inspector would come. Mom had more education than most girls her age, she learned seven languages while working away from home and at school. She learned to tan leather, make harnesses and most work that any woman or men could do. Mom saved her money and bought 5 acres, then she farmed, and got her limit of cows. All farming was done by hand. The grain and flax was broadcast by hand. Cut with a scythe, tied into bundles by hand, and carried home in a geehta (a square of material about the size of a blanket) all four corners tied, then thrashed with an outfit (chape) that looked like a long stick with a piece of leather, then another stick about 2- 1/2 feet long. I remember seeing them thrash grain with them things when wewere on Lower Dry Creek. The straw was then staked and the grain was poured out of a bucket on a windy day to clean chaff and bits of straw out. Some grain was ground for flour. The straw was used for making mattresses and bedding for cows. She was just a tiny woman under five feet tall, dark brown hair, brown eyes, and always happy and very witty with answers whether in fun or serious. Anyone that knew her always said very nice things about her. She could cook up a meal that was really enjoyed by everyone that came, even though there never was any groceries on hand. She made our clothes and taught us as much as she had time. Her saying was, 'learn everything you can, cause your knowledge can never be taken away from you. You can lose a home or money, but nobody can take your knowledge from you.' She didn't like people to gossip. She used to say, 'Don't kick anyone in the face when they're down, but help them up.' I know her heart was broken many times, but she wouldn't let it show. We had a wonderful time with Mom. We kids had to work hard at times, but of course, she was the one that was supporting us most of my life at home; but she let us have fun too. We didn't have any toys, just a homemade sled. It was too big for us kids to pull it up the hill, so she invited Roberts (neighbors) kids to come and help strip feathers. We stripped for an hour, then we could go slide for 15 minutes (anyway itwould run over that time) and when we come back in she would have a surprise for us, like cookies, cake, or peanut brittle (without nuts). Mr. Roberts was always happy to come and help, (so he could have a nice meal.) some work that Mama couldn't do. Most of the time it was at harvesting time. 1913 March 12, Susanna Ligocki and daughter Anna, and sister-in-law Yadwiga Ligocki arrived in New York aboard the Kaiser Wilhelm II. The steamship was built in 1902 at Stellin, Germany by Art Ges Vulcan. It was owned by North German Lloyd. 19.161 tons, 684.3 x 72.3 x 40.2. It was renamed Agamemmon and then Monticello. The steamship was scraped in 1940, full shot, 1903. (photo of ship.) Mrs. J. Legocki Succumbs here. Monarch woman dies at the home of her d.

Jesse Gooch

M, #323614, b. Nov 9, 1814, d. 1879
Jesse Gooch was born on Nov 9, 1814 at Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky. Jesse married Elizabeth Ware on Dec 10, 1840 at Morgan County, Indiana. Jesse was buried in 1879. He died in 1879.
Centerton, Morgan Co., Indiana Early settlers came from North Carolina, Ohio, and Tennessee to Kentucky. After the Revolutionary War the Virginia militia was given land grants. They finally immigrated to Indiana. Settlers came in 1820 and 1821. They traveled by water ways up the White Lick river to the mouth of the Sycamore river in Indiana. Elijah Lang and his sons, brother James Lang, Dabney and Jesse Gooch all came with the first settlers. Elijah Koons, who married Nancy Lang, sister of Delilah B. Lang also came about that time. We have no record of the year when William N., John, and Phillip Gooch came to Indiana (1822-1824) founded the community which they named Centerton. It was a fast growing community and after a few years tried to get it named the new county seat. But, Martensville was chosen for it as they had a new road and more water ways. Rivers were very important. Nearly all travel was by water through the dense wilderness. Flat boating became a trade or profession. All five Gooch brothers ran the rivers from Martensville, Indiana to New Orleans, 1,800 miles by water. Products transported were furs, skins, ginsing, bee wax, feathers, corn, and hogs. The men who ran the boats bought supplies in New Orleans. Mules, horses, sugar, cloth, and gun powder. They traveled home by land, over the trail later named the 'Natches Trace' in Tennessee and Kentucky. The men were robbed by bandits on the way home. They learned to put their money in the bottom of the sugar barrels--also the gun powder in skins. These were the 2 items most useful in the wilderness. 1826 Sickness took a great toll on the settlers. 'Bloody Flux'---a diarrhea until one passed blood accompanied with high fever, pain, and cramps. An epidemic in 1826; noone recovered. There were no doctors or medical help;just home remedies. (I wonder if this awful epidemic in Centerton was a food poison ). My grandmother Gilbert was afraid of the hot months of July and August. She was afraid the little ones would get 'summer complaint' or diarrhea. She said feed them corn meal mush or oatmeal. She remembered hearing about the awful 'Bloody Flux.' Notes by Dorotha DeYoung, 1985. 1823 The first school was held in a log barn a few months during the summer of 1823. Mary Turpin Lang was one of the first school employees. 1823 Churches, White Lick Methodist and The Friends Church 1824 Two Seed Baptist Church, east ofMartensville, Indiana. 1830 Census Morgan Co., Ind. One of the most complete and unusual private collections of war time souvenirs sent from the European theater of war and ever to be displayed in Reno belongs to Harvey chapman, local carpenter employed by the Southern Pacific railroad company. The assortment of weapons of war, valued between $500.00 and 800.00 dollars, was sent to Mr. Chapman by a close friend, Vern Barker, now residing in Bishop, California, who served in the 702nd tank battalion ofPatton's third army. Mr. Barker, knowing that Mr. Chapman was interested in guns and weapons of any kind, shipped him a large collection of German rifles, pistols, bayonets and souvenirs collected from the battle fields on which he wasfighting during his three years of service. Mr. Barker's outfit was among the first to cross the English channel and land on French territory. When he had any free time during that campaign he traveled about the French countryside collecting souvenirs that he thought would make an interesting record of the type of weapons manufactured and used by the Germans during that time. Among the truly unique items included in the display are three high-powered telescopes taken from captured German snipers which were used to survey the surrounding territory for miles around. Another noteworthy feature of the group is a silver dress saber taken from a captured German officer. The rifle collection, which arrived here in pairs over a period of four months, includes one 735 caliber Italian rifle, a Romanian 65 caliber rifle, one Belgian 765 caliber service rifle, and 3 eight millimeter service rifles. Two pistols, a P-38 which is the latestGerman model manufactured and an old-fashioned German lugar, were brought intothis country by a friend of Barker's and mailed to Mr. Chapman from Illinois. Also included in the collection where an assortment of dead shells, gun cases, machine gun equipment, German and French currency and a tank site taken from a German tank which his outfit destroyed. This site is the equipment of a periscope type by which the driver of the vehicle is enabled to see where he is going. Mr. Barker is now discharged from the army and employed on a ranch near Bishop, California. His outfit was one of that group trapped in December, 1944, in the 'battle of the bulge' and which was rescued by the Fourth Armored division. He visited at the Chapman home at 1403 terrace Dr. After his discharge before returning to his former occupation. 1941 November 13, Harvey Chapman, P.O.Box 658, Manhattan, Nevada 1942 about this time moved to Reno, Nevada 1951,June 23rd, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Chapman 1067 Oak St., Reno, Nevada 1964 June, Reno., Nevada. He was 67, born Oct. 25, 1896 in Litchfield, Nebraska. He had made his home in the Reno area for 22 years, most recently residing at 1280 Oliver Ave. He was a veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Fraternal order of Eagles, Reno Aerie No., 206.       Robert Foote was born on Feb 11, 1829 at Lawrence County, Indiana. He was the son of Prosper Alonzo Foote. Robert married Louisa Jane Chapman, daughter of Aquilla G. Chapman and Jeston Freelove Warren, on Feb 15, 1849 at Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana. Robert Foote died on Aug 12, 1893 at Coles County, Illinois, at age 64. Robert was buried in Aug, 1893 at Shilo Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Coles County, Illinois.
I have obtained a copy of Roberts military Pension File and I also have census records showing Robert and Janes movements from 1850-through death. I believe based upon a letter that Robert was orphaned and that his Uncle WInthrop raised him. The information on Winthrop is really fascinating he was a Yale educated Lawyer and Doctor and one of the first to export stone from the queries of Bedford.. Winthrops brother Ziba died as part of the first survey team in IN. There is a great book about Ziba entitled Foote's Grave Pond. The only one of Winthrop's brothers that seems to work as a possible father for Robert is Prosper Alonzo Foote. He died around 1831 and would be consistent with Robert coming to live with Winthrop at an early age. The only thing I have to base this speculation on is a letter from Lawerence County Foote file that is almost 20 years old that is a request for info on Robert stating that he had seen a document that stated that Robert was the son of a brother of Winthrop and came to live with him at an early age. You can acess all of Dr. Winthrops brothers and sisters by going to Edward Foote and Anna Prindle listing at familysearch. This line is throughly documented going back to 1550's. That is why I have trying so long to get the last connection figured out. I have pretty good information on most of Robert and Janes Children there just a couple that I am little sketchy. Most of Robert and Jane's family are in a couple of cemetaries a mile a part. Family history says that Roberts farm was roughly directly behind the cemetary he is buried in. I would be very happy to share anything I have just let me know what you need. I am pretty well set as far as military records, census records, and most of Roberts children any assitance you can offer me would be great. As I said I am hoping to make another trip to Indiana in a couple of weeks Bedford is about 3 hours from here. It has been about 5 years since I have made a trip over there. I think I have almost all the Coles County items I can find. My Aunt is Coles County Historian so I have been acess a great deal of her books and things to try to find something. I do not have a great deal other than township info on the birth of the kids from familysearch to document the moves of the family between 1850-1870. They were defintely living in Cumberland County Il in 1870, which is roughly 5 miles from where they would settle by 1880. Likely sometime before the marriage of Roberts son my GG Grandison Foote in about 1874. Thanks for responding hopefully we can help each other Jason Easter. jeaster@mchsi.com
