With Peter Hall and Isaac Conover Henry formed the trio that gave constant exhibitions of active muscular patriotism that brought wore to the offending Tories and casued a reward of one hundred dollars to be offerd for their heads. They outwitted their enemies and came through the war safely. Andrew Frank , son of the patriot , owned a large property in Glen, known as Logtown. He erected an Inn on this property , where he entertained the early day travelers. He was a man of large business
interests. He married Jane Conover born in Glen , where she died.

William G. Conover, of Valparaiso, was born on April 26, 1925. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy Seabees, the Navy’s construction battalion, where he participated in projects on Tinian and Saipan in the Pacific Theatre. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He graduated with a B.A. from Valparaiso University in 1949 and his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1951. He maintained a general private practice and held several public service posts in Valparaiso prior to his appointment to the Court of Appeals of Indiana. He was appointed judge of the Valparaiso City Court in 1952. From 1961 to 1964, he was attorney for the Porter County Plan Commission. From 1963 to 1971, he was Porter County Prosecutor.

Prior to his service on the Court of Appeals, Judge Conover was active in Republican Party politics. He was Chairman of the Porter County Young Republicans from 1956 to 1958. He was Porter County Republican Chairman from 1958 to 1963. He was a delegate to the Republican state convention from 1958 to 1976 and to the Republican National Convention in 1972 and 1976.

Judge Conover was appointed to the Indiana Court of Appeals in 1981 by Governor Robert D. Orr, and took his seat on October 26th. He retired on December 31, 1993.

Judge Conover was a member of the Porter County Bar Association, serving as President in 1965. He was also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the Institute for Judicial Administration, and the American Judicature Society. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1991. He belongs to Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, serving on the Vestry, and was a member of the executive board of the Indiana-Kentucky Lutheran Synod from 1983 to 1986. He is a member of the American Legion, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Pottowattamie Council of the Boy Scouts, the Saturday Evening Club, Kappa Iota Pi social fraternity, and Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity. He was a member of the board of directors of the Valparaiso Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1953 to 1958, and a member of the Valparaiso Rotary Club from 1961 to 1970.

Judge Conover served as a senior judge of the Court of Appeals from January 1, 1994, the day following his official retirement, to December 31, 1995. He and his wife Victoria have six sons and a daughter. They live in Valparaiso.

J. D. Crownover, proprietor of the Oakwood stock farm, and one of the leading breeders of thoroughbred stock in Bureau county, lives on section 4, Wyanet township, about three miles northeast of the village of Wyanet. There he carries on his business interests on an extensive scale, and is winning a very gratifying measure of pros­perity through his carefully conducted affairs. He is a son of James Crownover, one of the early pioneers of the county, who is mentioned on an­other page of this volume. His birth occurred in Bureau county, and he pursued his education in the district schools, in Princeton high school and in Knox College, at Galesburg, Illinois. Since putting aside his text=books he has always carried on farming and stock-raising, and has been very successful in his chosen field of labor. His farm is well kept and everything about the place is indicative of the progressive and enterprising spirit which permeates Mr. Crownover in all he does. He is now extensively engaged in the breeding of thoroughbred registered 'Poland China hogs, the best coach horses and barred Plymouth Rock chickens. He raises from one hundred to two hundred hogs each year, which he sells at fancy prices, shipping, to all parts of the country. He advertises in the best stock journals, and is known far and wide as a thorough and progressive stock­man. He always has stock for sale, and he handles a large amount of cattle, buying, selling and ship- ping the car lot. He is also engaged in the breeding of poultry, keeps only the best, his spe­cialty being barred Plymouth Rocks, whose breeding can be traced to many of the leading poultry yards of the United States. He is an excellent judge of all kinds of stock, and has bought and sold hundreds of cattle and horses, in which busi­ness he has made his success. He has a fine farm of over two hundred acres, and also controls a large farm adjoining, that belongs to his mother.
In all of his business dealings Mr. Crownover has carried on his operations capably and honestly, and now bears an unassailable reputation for business integrity. His life has been upright and honorable, and the poor and needy have found in him a warm friend. He has done much to assist others less fortunate than himself, and has been particularly helpful in the matter of assisting poor boys and girls to better situations, where they would be amid better surroundings.
