Melvin married Anna Thompson, daughter of Andrew Thompson and Christian Creger. Melvin Schenck died in 1849. Melvin was buried at Loncor plot, Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois.
      BIO: Was at Bennet's settlement on Phillips Location in 1805, He sold to Tewalt Swarts, who was, by the way married into the Dean family. His wife was Margaret Dean, whose members included the wife of John Longcor of Ovid. I saw this in the records of the Clove Valley Church. In 1811 Melvin moved to Dundee, NY, (probably Bath). The ~UHistory of Yates Co.~u Vol. 2 p.p 926 and 927, says Melvin Schenck had 7 children by his first wife, Sarah Walden: Marian, Eliza, Christopher, Catharine, Eleanor, Deliah and Garrett. Sarah died in 1818. Melvin remarried to Anna (widow Longcor) although she is called Anna Sprowls I think she was Anna Thompson primarily because of the presence of Samuel Longcor, one of Leonard's and Anna's known children, in Belvidere, IL. I wonder if Leonard's daughters could also be in Boone Co. with husbands. Melvin and Anna had 3 children: Salley Ann, Melvin and Rachel. Salley Ann married a Mr. Elliott, Melvin married Sarah Lanning, Rachel married a Mr. Goodenough in IL. My Stanhope line is related to the Goodenough's and I can't find this family, in their family history. In 1830 the History of Steuben County~B mentions Melvin as a represenative for Bath in the Pultney
land disputes. Melvin then, we find from the letter, moved to MI and then to Boone Co. IL. Melvin died 1849 at 71 and Anna in 1849 at 69. Melvin was a schoolteacher in NY which probably accounts for the tone of his letter to David which we printed in the last issue. Samuel Longcor also is present in Belvidere from an early time. Has anyone looked at the 1840 or 50 Federal census for Samuel? The ~U~u~U~u~U~u~U~u~U~uD~U~uirectory of Boone Co., IL published in 1877 has a sect Belvidere Twp. It mentions several Longcor's. My son, Brendan, was fortunate to find a copy in the Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago and provided me with copies.~b

Adeline married John Baptist Priquet in 1867. Adeline Melissa Schenck died on Jun 30, 1931 at Saratoga, Carbon County, Wyoming, at age 79.
     

“Mrs. Adeline M. Priquet died here last Saturday. Had been a resident of Saratoga for more than thirty years, coming here in 1900. Mrs. Adeline M. Priquet, wife of the late John Priquet passed away at her home in Saratoga last Saturday after a long illness which had made her a helpless invalid for several years. She was a little past 79 years of age.

Mrs. Priquet was born in Belvidere, Ill., April 12, 1852, and in 1861 accompanied her parents to Idaho Springs, Colo., the long trip being made in a prairie schooner. There she was married to John Priquet in 1867. Mr. and Mrs. Priquet were the parents of eleven children, five of whom are left to mourn her departure. These are Mrs. Sarah McDonald of Drumright, Okla; Mrs. D. C. Davis of Littleton, Colo; Mrs. Etta Fulton of Salem, N. J; Mrs. J. A. Mauk of Saratoga; and Oscar M. Piquet of Encampment. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In July 1900 Mr. Priquet moved his family to Saratoga and this had since been the family home. Mr. Priquet passed away about four years ago. Mrs. Priquet’s health failed rapidly after her husband’s death and for nearly three years she had been an invalid.

The funeral services occurred Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Arthur Campbell, and attended by many old friends of the family. Interment was made in the local cemetery.”
