HAVILAND - Olney Merle Mohney, 98, died May 28, 2007, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson.

He was born Jan. 3, 1909, in Sawyer, the son of the late Lyman E. and Clara B. Ball Mohney. He graduated from Sawyer High School and Kansas State University, earning a bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering in 1931. A resident of the Dillon Living Center since 2000, formerly a 65-year resident of Haviland, he was a farmer and veterinary assistant to his brother, Leonard Mohney, D.V.M., of Pratt. He was also employed by the Kansas State Artificial Breeders Association and as a school custodian for Haviland High School.

He belonged to United Methodist Church in Haviland and had been a member of the Pratt Saddle Club He was also a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and R.O.T.C..
On July 27, 1932, he married Edna Edith Brown of Fort Scott in Manhattan. She died Feb. 6, 1998.

Survivors include: four daughters, Nancy (Edward) Proctor, Normal, Ill., Jane (Carl) Nellis, Jerome, Idaho, MaryBeth (Richard) Chenoweth, Rawlins, Wyo., and Susan (Richard) Zieman, El Dorado; a brother, Leonard Mohney, Pratt; a sister, Marjorie Gilbert, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: two sisters, Ruth Humble and Louise Farmer.

A celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Haviland United Methodist Church. There will be no visitation.

Marjorie A. Gilbert, 97, died March 11, 2010, at Dillon Living Center, Hutchinson. She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Sawyer, to Lyman Elman and Clara Ball Mohney. A resident of Hutchinson since 1934, she was a homemaker, seamstress, and church hostess. She was a Past Matron of Silver Leaf Chapter #464 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
On July 19, 1934, she married Clyde David Gilbert in Sawyer. He died May 9, 2005. Survivors include: three daughters, Loretta Shultz and husband Wallace, Canyon Lake, Texas, Martha Harsch and husband Steve, Tucson, Ariz., and Dorothy Buhrle and husband Dean, Bonner Springs; brother, Leonard Mohney and wife Betty, Wichita; sister-in-law, Opal Marie Moore, San Diego, Calif; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Olney Mohney; and two sisters Ruth Humble and Louise Farmer.

Funeral will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Conard presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Penwell-Gable Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson.
