Live Wire Electrocutes Boy at Work on Wet Concrete Floor
FOREMAN FAILS IN EFFORT TO SAVE LIFE
Youth, Struck Down by 110 Volt Shock, Almost Instantly Killed.
An electric wire, carrying only the usual 110 volts, scorched the life out of Glenn Rabb, 19-year-old carpenter's apprentice, when the boy touched it. while at work on the construction of the new Campbell Lumber company building, 1330 South Flores street, Wednesday morning.
The fact that both the victim and the wire were touching a newly laid and still wet concrete floor was believed to have made the shock more violent.
Young Rabb, who lives at 3405 South Flores street, was holding a portable electric saw and started to climb an elevator hoist on the second floor of the building, when his bare hand came in contact with the wire. The boy cried out at the shock and R. A. Moore, 210 Mayfield boulevard, foreman on the job, jerked away an electric wire which he believed that the boy was touching. It was the wrong wire, however, and before Moore could reach the right one, the victim had slumped to the floor, the current still surging through his body.
Moore and other workers broke the contact and attempted vainly to resuscitate the victim. Physicians at the Medical and Surgical clinic, Camden street, pronounced the boy dead on his arrival in an ambulance.
He leaves a bride of a year, and his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Porter Moore [sic; should be RABB] of San Angelo, Texas. He was in the employ of his uncle, C. C. Dishman, contractor.
