For 21 years he and his wife spent winters in Florida where he enjoyed golf and many other sports. He was a 1937 graduate of Waynesburg High School and retired in 1981 from Maislin Trucking Co. (formerly Gateway Trucking), after 25 years service, where he was a truck driver. Delbert was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Teamsters Local #92, Sandy Valley American Legion Post #432, and the former Magnolia Grange. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and took part in the D-Day Invasion, and received a Purple Heart and five Battle Stars. Preceded in death by one sister, E. Arlene Griffing. Survived by his wife, M. Arlene (Foltz) Welker, with whom he would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on June 21; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Charlie Frederick, of Ocala, FL, Sally and Rev. Melvin Truex, of Lancaster, OH, and Janet and Dave Almasy, of Waynesburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Bonnie Welker, of Magnolia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alwilda Warner, and Wanda and Howard Diehl, all of Waynesburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Mary K. Welker, and V. Shubael and Mary Jane Welker, all of Waynesburg; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan Purdum, his son-in-law, Rev. Melvin Truex, and his grandson, Rev. Jon Truex officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and took part in the D-Day Invasion, and received a Purple Heart and five Battle Stars. Preceded in death by one sister, E. Arlene Griffing. Survived by his wife, M. Arlene (Foltz) Welker, with whom he would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on June 21; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Charlie Frederick, of Ocala, FL, Sally and Rev. Melvin Truex, of Lancaster, OH, and Janet and Dave Almasy, of Waynesburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Bonnie Welker, of Magnolia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alwilda Warner, and Wanda and Howard Diehl, all of Waynesburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Mary K. Welker, and V. Shubael and Mary Jane Welker, all of Waynesburg; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan Purdum, his son-in-law, Rev. Melvin Truex, and his grandson, Rev. Jon Truex officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia.
