A memorial service for Weston L. Dangler, 83, of Pompton Plains will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church of Summit. Arrangements are by the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.

Mr. Dangler died Thursday in the Renaissance Gardens in Pompton Plains.

He was the executive director and national secretary of Alpha Chi Rho National Fraternity in Neptune before retiring. He also owned the Long Lane Farm Dairy in the Wayside section of Oakhurst, was a manager at the Alderney Dairy Shore Branch in Oakhurst and a stockbroker.

A graduate of Rutgers University, Mr. Dangler was president of the board of education and the township council in Ocean Township. He also served as the townships police commissioner, as a director and coach for the Ocean Township Little League program and as president of the Babe Ruth League.

Mr. Dangler was also a member of the Old Guard of Summit.

Born in Asbury Park, he lived there, the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, Colts Neck, Little Silver, Tequesta, Fla., and Summit before moving to Pompton Plains two years ago.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; a son, Rev. Stuart Dangler; daughters, Patricia Barrabee and Cynthia Domenico; a stepdaughter, Barbara Pederson; a brother, Wilton; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth Millicent (West) Dangler, age 87, formerly of Waterton Road, Shickshinny, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Riverwoods Nursing Center, Lewisburg, where she was a patient for several weeks.

She resided at Riverwoods Retirement Community for two and a half years.

Born on September 26, 1920, in West Windsor Township, Morris County, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Jane (Neil) West. She moved from New Jersey to New Columbus in 1961, residing there until 1977, when she moved to Waterton Road, near Huntington Mills. In 2005 she moved to Riverwoods.

Ruth was a 1938 graduate of Hightstown (New Jersey) High School. She was a secretary in a law office, doctor’s office and lastly in the MONY Insurance office in Berwick and Bloomsburg.
She was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church and a former member of Wayside United Methodist Church, Wayside, N.J. She participated in the United Methodist Women’s group and played the piano and organ at both churches.

Ruth was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, New Jersey, and was formerly active with the Northwest High School band parents, the Huntington Valley Little League, and was a Columbia County 4-H leader.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Wilton E. Dangler, with whom she would have celebrated her 58th wedding anniversary with on November 5, 2008; three daughters, Jane, wife of Harold C. Ackerman, Benton; Susan Stone, Lansdowne, Pa; Deborah Moir, Stillwater (New Columbus); a son, Charles “Chuck” Dangler, Shickshinny; seven grandchildren, Eric Ackerman, Christopher Ackerman, Sara Stone, Benjamin Stone, Michael Moir Jr., Jaime Moir, Angela Dangler; and two great-grandchildren, Logan Ackerman and Clayton Ackerman.
She was the last of her immediate family.

Ruth was preceded in death by her first husband, Ted Archer; by three brothers, Ray West, Edward West and John West; and sister Joan Walker.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Rd., Shickshinny, with her pastor, the Rev. Mark A. Hagy, and her nephew, the Rev. Stuart Dangler, pastor of the Demarest United Methodist Church, Demarest, N.J., officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville, Pa.
Friends may call at the church Tuesday after 2 p.m.
