Funeral services for Henry A. Buie, 73, Fort Necessity planter, were conducted at Boeuf Prairie Methodist church at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. R. K. Friedrich, officiated. Mr. Buie, member of a pioneer Franklin parish family, died Monday morning in a local hospital. Born at Fort Necessity on March 2, 1886, Mr. Buie had served as principal of Mellville and DeRidder High School and was a past superintendent of education in Allen parish. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Voorhies Buie; two brothers, Jim Buie of Fort Necessity and Dr. Neil D. Buie of Monroe; three sisters; Mrs. Effie Wedgeworth, Ruston, Mrs. J. R. Downs, Houston, Tex., and Miss Fannie Buie, San Francisco, Calif. Active pallbearers were Henry Price, John Richard Downs, Charles Buie, Woodrow Turner, Frank Baxter and R. S. Bonner. VAN DUYNE, NELSON "BURT," 91, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (July 28, 2005) at Carrington Place Convalescent Center. He was born in Caldwell, N.J., and moved here in the 1930s from upstate New York. He was a retired Air Force master sergeant. For 10 years, he worked at the Sand Motel on Treasure Island as a night auditor. He was a member of First Methodist Church. Survivors include seven nieces, Sharon Griessel, Dee Pfieffer and Sally Baynard, all of St. Petersburg; Carole Wahle, Arlington, Texas; Judy Shoup, Largo; Nancy Fuell, Harrison, Ohio; and Helen Raczkowski, Jesup, Ga; and a nephew, Jim Pfeiffer, Inverness. Memorial Park Funeral Home, St. Petersburg.
