Carl Wing, senior citizen of the Pittsboro community, died, May 12, at the Hendricks County Hospital at the age of 83.

He was a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church and engaged in farming in the Pittsboro area.

Funeral services were Friday afternoon from the Jones & Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with the Rev. Wannie Scott officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.

Survivors include four children, Hassil, Oren, and Leon Wing and Mrs. Maudie Harrod; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Oren Ellis Wing died Jan. 13 at his Lebanon home. He was 95.

Born Aug. 28, 1911, in Perry Township, Boone County, he was a son of the late Carl and Amanda Laura (Smith) Wing. He was the last member of his generation, having outlived all of his siblings and cousins.

He married Evelyn Weber in Kentucky on Feb. 21, 1931. She died Oct. 28, 1993.

Mr. Wing was a life resident of Boone County with the exception of a few years spent in Hendricks County prior to his marriage. He attended schools in Perry Township.

He farmed and raised horses, until retiring in 1993. He lost a forearm in a corn picker accident in 1950, but continued to work another 40 years.

Mr. Wing was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Fayette, the Belgian Horse Association, and the Indiana Draft Horse Breeders Association. He was also a volunteer with the Boone County 4-H Horseman’s Program.

Survivors include sons and a daughter-in-law LaVern Wing of Lebanon and Lowell E. and Shirley Wing of Pittsboro; daughters and sons-in-law Marjorie and Tom Waggoner of Brownsburg, Jenny and John Preston of Lebanon, and Patsy and Jim Marshall of Lebanon; a daughter-in-law, Betty Wing of North Salem; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a son, Lawrence E. Wing; brothers Glenn Wing, Hassil Wing, and Leon Wing; and a sister, Maude Harrod.

Services are 11 a.m. Jan. 19 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, 7300 South S.R. 267, Fayette. Interment will follow at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Fayette.

Calling is one hour prior to services at the church and from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 18 at Myers Chapel of Memories, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Evelyn Wing, 80, Lebanon, died Thursday, Oct. 28 in Withham Memorial Hospital, Lebanon.

Born Nov. 27, 1912 in Perry Township, Boone County, she was the daughter of Cecil M. and Hazel G. Whitlow Weber. She married Oren E. Wing Feb. 21, 1931 and he survives.

Mrs. Wing, a life resident of Perry Township, farmed with her husband and was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church at Fayette.

Services were Sunday, Oct. 31 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, with Pastor Rick Adkins officiating. Burial was in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Myers Mortuary, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving with her husband are sons; Lawrence E. Wing, Lebanon, Lavern Wing, Luray, Va., and Lowell E. Wing, Brownsburg; daughters; Marjorie Waggoner, Brownsburg, Jenny Preston and Patsy Marshall, both of Lebanon; brothers; Earl and Gene Weber, both of Lebanon; a sister, Betty Hine, Lebanon; 9 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Lizton.

Hassil Wing, age 69, Indianapolis, former member of the Hendricks County Fair Board, was killed, July 28, in an auto accident in Boone County.

Martha Elizabeth Esworthy died on Sep 28, 1963 at Hedrecka Nursing Home, Rossville, Vermilion County, Illinois, at age 78. Martha was buried at Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermilion County, Illinois.

Graveside services were held at 10:30 am Monday at the Potomac Cemetery for Mrs Martha Battershell, 78, who died at 1:20 pm Saturday, September 28, 1963, at the Hedrecka Nursing Home. She had been a patient there three years.

The Rev A L Taylor officiated and the Young Funeral Home was in charge of the burial.

Born May 24, 1885 near Potomac, Mrs Battershell was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Thornsbrough Esworthy. She was married to Charles E Battershell February 15, 1905 at Danville, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs Leslie (Rebecca) Bray of Rossville and Mrs Lawrence (Martha) Ellis of Danville; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Norma Mae, a sister and two brothers.

Mrs Battershell was a member of the Bismarck Methodist Church.

      Charles Fred Esworthy was born on Mar 8, 1889 at Collision, Vermilion County, Illinois. He was the son of James Thomas Esworthy and Mary A. Thornsbrough. Charles married Effie Mae Martin. Charles Fred Esworthy died on Jan 30, 1963 at Danville, Vermilion County, Illinois, at age 73. Charles was buried at Potomac Cemetery, Potomac, Vermilion County, Illinois.

Fred Calvin Petty died on Jun 3, 1963 at Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana, at age 60.
