Norma June Weber was born on Jun 22, 1924 at The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon. She was the daughter of Capt. Richard Merle Weber and Maud Winchell. Norma married Clarence H. Eid on Sep 6, 1957. Norma June Weber died on Apr 18, 2009 at North Bend, Coos County, Oregon, at age 84.
Norma June (Weber) Eid, 84, a former resident of The Dalles, died April 18, 2009, in North Bend.
She was born on June 22, 1924 in The Dalles to Richard Merle Weber and Maud (Winchel) Weber. As a child, Norma grew up on a cherry ranch in The Dalles. The family moved to Chula Vista, Calif., during the Great Depression in early 1930, where her father went to work in a gambling casino in Tijuana, Mexico.
The family moved back to The Dalles in the fall of 1933. She completed grade school, junior High and high school in The Dalles, graduating in the class of 1942. She attended Oregon State in the fall of 1942. In 1944 she worked in the Portland Shipyards as a welder to support the war effort.
She also worked for the US Corps of Engineers in Portland. Later she became a secretary to Jack Sanderson for Sandy’s Camera shops. She also did the mounting of the Viewmaster Stereo Reels for the photofinishing department in Portland.
On Sept. 6, 1957, she married Clarence H. Eid of Canby, who was a salesman at Sandy’s camera shop. Following her marriage, she returned to college at Portland State to earn a teaching certificate as an elementary school teacher and her masters in geology. She taught for 24 years in the Portland public school system.
After teaching, she was introduced to geneology. Her mother’s relatives came to Oregon on the 1844 wagon train. She produced an exhausting geneology of each of the members of the wagon train.
She collected all types of photographic images and frames and presented many programs on collecting, identifying and preserving photographic memorabilia. She was pleased to be named volunteer of the year at the Oregon State Library in Salem for her work in helping to catalog photographic material.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, member and secretary of the Oregon and California Trails Historical Society. In 2000, she and her husband moved to North Bend from Tualatin, where they had resided for 25 years.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clarence Eid, North Bend; daughter Alisa Jo George and her husband Gregory, Issaquah, Wash; grandchildren Carson and Amanda George; and brother George Weber, The Dalles.
She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Maud Weber.
At her request, no public services will be held. Cremation rites will take place at Ocean View Crematory in Coos Bay.

William Burton Morris was born on May 2, 1906 at Lawton, Comanche County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Oren Carlton Morris and LaZette Pearl McNeely. William married Verdia Belle Casey on May 2, 1928 at Pecos, Reeves County, Texas. William Burton Morris died on Jun 1, 1988 at Kermit, Winkler County, Texas, at age 82. William was buried on Jun 3, 1988 at Monahans City Cemetery, Monahans, Ward County, Texas.
Soon after 1928 Monahans began to feel the beginning of the oil boom that came to Ward County in the ensuing years. Bert Morris, another employee of the T&NM Railroad, gives us another insight on these developments as he rode the line:
"After the depression I went to work on the Texas and New Mexico. Things had begun to pick up somewhat. In fact, it was not unusual for us to bring in from 100 to 150 cars from Lovington and put them in the yard here in Monahans. Very seldom we worked under sixteen hours a day. There was a lot of building going on up that way and a lot of oil being shipped out. A little extra boom came along, and the T&P built a bunch of these loading racks and shipped the oil by rail. That was about the time the Permian Basin was being drilled. The Keystone was about the hottest spot about that time. It seems like I remember that you could get up on top of that train at night and you could see nothing but a string of lights on the oil rigs all the way from Eunice to Crane. It was just something else, that's all. Then the T&P was really on a boom. The New Mexico oil was shipped in by car and at that time they had seven "dodgers" running out of Monahans. They would take as many cars as they could take up Duoro hill (in Ector County), put them in the yard there, and come back and get another load. From Duoro hill, one engine could pull as many as two engines could pull up the hill. This lasted until the oil companies got their pipe lines completed. Mr. Fred Gipson was the agent for the T&P at that time."
Burt Morris: "On December 31, 1927, there were four pipelines being built in and around Monahans. Thirty-five men spent the night in the cafe because there were no beds anywhere. Some just laid their heads on the counter, to be roused at 5 o'clock in the morning when the cafe opened. Shell was getting ready to build the Million Barrel Tank." (He was night cashier for his step-father, J. I. Rogers. The cafe was located in a building owned by W. M. Casey.)
In 1930 he lived in Monahans, Ward, Texas, with wife, Verdia and son, William C. He was 23 years old, she was 22, and their son was 1. His occupation was Truck Driver for Shell Pipeline Co.

Earl Rufus Ray died on Mar 24, 1995 at Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas, at age 86. Earl was buried at Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, Lubbock, Lubbock County, Texas.
Occupation: High school band Director for 20 years.
The earliest records of a high school band in Monahans, Texas, are of the 1928 group which was organized by Earl (Rosey) Ray. It had 18 or 20 members. When Mr. Ray moved from Monahans the band crumbled. He also organized the first band in Wink, Texas.
"Earl attended Tarleton State College in Stephenville, TX for two years where he played euphonium in the band. His family moved to Breckenridge, TX where Earl was befriended by the high school band director, Pop Frazier. There was a band director job open at Monahans, TX and they were interested in Earl Ray. Pop Frazier gave him a "crash course" on woodwinds and conducting. In addition, Col. Earl D. Irons and D. O. Wiley helped Earl with literature, teaching techniques, etc. After a year at Monahans, Earl was hired by Wink High School to organize a band. He directed both bands for a year then became the Wink High School band director. Earl took the Wink band to Tulsa, OK in 1931 to the first National Band Contest where he met John Phillip Sousa. In 1935, Earl became the director of the Abilene, KS High School Band. During this tenure, his bands continued to win National Contests and some of his judges included: A. A. Harding, Franko Goldman, Frank Simon, Bill Revelli, and Mark Hindsley. Earl continued his education during the summer months. He studied euphonium with Joseph De Luca, the euphonium soloist with the Sousa Band. Earl earned his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. In 1942 he became the band director at Highland Park High School in North Dallas. In 1946 he became the Co-Ordinator of Music at Highland Park High School.
In 1954 Earl and LaVerne opened the Earl Ray Music Company in Lubbock, TX where they remained until retirement in 1984. During that time and until his passing in 1995, Earl and LaVerne served as Texas Tech Band bus sponsors for 35 years! LaVerne continues to travel with the "Goin' Band from Raider land". Earl and LaVerne have been honored with many memberships and awards. Scholarships and service awards are named in honor of them by Texas Tech's chapters of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. Earl and Laverne had three highly successful careers as band director and supporting spouse, as music store owners, and probably most importantly, advocates of band music and counselors of young band directors. Through their love of bands and support of band activities, they have affectionately touched thousands of lives.
Capitan, New Mexico served as a place of retreat for the Rays...please enjoy Capitan Majesty." (Submitted by LaVerne Morris Ray, 1999.).
