Bertha Mae Aydelotte died Friday December 17, 2004 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. Born in Parsonsburg, MD on November 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Dick and Jennie Rohm. She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph A. Sutton and husband, John W. Aydelotte, Jr. and granddaughter, Katie McCarthy.

She is survived by her devoted children and their spouses, Jo Anne Sutton Quillin and Skip Quillin, Berlin, Donna Aydelotte Massa and Patrick Massa, Red Lion, PA., Mary Jo McCarthy Mathos and David Mathos, Mardela Springs, and John W. Aydelotte III and Susan Aydelotte, Parsonsburg. She is also survived by grandchildren Jodi Bounds Danzi, Catherine Harrison Restelli, Stephanie Harrison Dunay, Michael Massa, Joseph T. McCarthy, and Rebecca Aydelotte, and great grandchildren Edward and Olivia Restelli and Harrison and Wyatt Dunay.

She is survived by her loving sisters and brother, Yetive Aydelotte, Seaford, Ruth Christopher, Eden, Nancy Powell, Pittsville, and Dick Rohm, Powellville. Her sister-in-law, Ethel Rohm, was a dear friend. Many nieces and nephews are also loved and remembered.

She was an active farm wife and maintained a career as financial secretary for the Almagamated Clothing Workers until her retirement. She was a Farm Bureau member and active in the Pittsville Lions Club. She was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Parsonsburg and recently an active member in her church's Red Hat Club. "Nana" will always be remembered for her love of sewing and knitting and beautiful hand-smocked baby clothes.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at 2pm at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury, Md. Friends may call one hour prior to service. Officiating will be the Rev. Anthony E. Rosetta Jr.. Interment will be at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Jerusalem United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 114 Parsonsburg, MD 21849.

Benjamin Hunting Howell (born 3 September 1875) - was an American rower who won the Diamond Challenge Sculls at Henley Royal Regatta and the Wingfield Sculls in 1898 and 1899.

Howell was born in New York the son of Frederick H Hunting of Wall Street, New York and his wife Katherine Van Liew Hunting. He was educated at the Military College in America and at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, England. In 1897 he rowed in the Cambridge boat in the Boat Race in the penultimate in a ten year series of wins by Oxford. He challenged in the Wingfield Sculls in 1897 but lost to Harry Blackstaffe. In 1898, he won the Diamond Challenge Sculls at Henley and the Wingfield Sculls, beating Harry Blackstaffe in both. He joined Thames Rowing Club and won the Diamond Challenge Sculls and the Wingfield Sculls beating Blackstaffe again in 1899. In 1900 he lost the Diamond Sculls to Edward Hemmerde, and the Wingfield Sculls to Blackstaffe.

Howell became a manufacturer of Tuxedo Park New York. When his mother died in 1911 she made him the major legatee of her will because "he bestowed care on me during my illness while his brother and sister quite neglected me".

During the years that the three Wyss (Wiss) children, Thomas, Victor and Adele, were growing up, marrying and having children of their own, Morristown was famous for the number of millionaires residing there, whose mansions and estates decorated the area. Their combined wealth was greater than the US Treasury! Many also had mansions in New York city, Newport and Palm Beach. I (Lynn Wiss Carney) remember as a child, many of these magnificent stately homes and "palaces" - my father, Thomas Wiss III sold automobiles to many of these wealthy part-time residents. They would even venture out from their Manhattan town houses to buy from him, an indication of his good reputation. But most of these estates and mansions are now gone - or converted for other uses. However, in earlier times, Morristown was a very historic community, as General George Washington had his headquarters here at two different periods during the Revolutionary War, and 10,000 of his troops were encamped in Jockey Hollow during the coldest winter of the War. The first National Historic Park in the United States was established here in 1933, to commemorate these harsh and trying winters in Morristown.

The real backbone of Morristown was its middle class, the men and women who had little shops and businesses, who participated in government, church and town affairs.

About 1900, Victor Wiss started a little bicycle shop at 44 Park Place, next to the Western Union Office. About 1904 he moved to the corner of DeHart and South Streets, where he was later joined by his brother Thomas Henry Wiss, Jr. Entrepreneurs that they were, the business eventually evolved into an Automobile Dealership, Victor A. Wiss & Brother ( later Wiss Brothers). They became one of the nations first 25 Dodge dealers. Since Morristown was such an affluent community (the most affluent, per capita, in the northeast, for many many years), business flourished. At one time they had branches in Madison, Dover, Bernardsville and Boonton. They also had Custom Motors on Market Street in Morristown, and a salesroom on South Street, across from the Women's Club. During World War I, when shipping was limited, Vic & Tom and their wives, Charlotte and Bess would drive out to Detroit and each one would drive back a new car for the salesroom. I (Lynn Wiss Carney) remember my father Thomas Wiss III and mother taking a train to Detroit, to drive back new cars that were delayed in shipping. They even took me on one of their trips! It was my first time to sleep on a train. They drove me across the bridge to Canada (and turned right around and came back) so I could say I'd been to Canada! I can remember being absolutely devastated (as an 8 year old) because we were staying in the fashionable "Hotel Cadillac."

     Alice L. Wiss was the daughter of Victor Alcide Wiss and Elizabeth Lindsley Dustan.
