William “Bill” Lewis, age 67, passed away on Jan. 24, 2009 at the Mayo Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz. from congestive heart failure.
He was born in Yreka, the son of Orel and Eleanor Lewis of Fort Jones. He graduated from Etna High School and received a degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University. He served in the 87th Army Engineering Battalion during the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star for meritorious service.
After the Army, he joined ITT Rayonier as a civil engineer and construction manager, working in Washington and Florida during his 28-year career. In 2000, he retired to Bend, Ore. with his wife Sherron.
Bill is survived by his wife Sherron of Bend; his daughter Cathy and her husband Doug Cooper of Seattle, Wash; his daughter Jill and her husband Michael Doyle, their daughter Georgia and son Jasper of Hong Kong; his sister Janet and her husband Tom Muzinich of Fort Jones; and nephew Ben and his wife Nicole Betts of Glendale, Calif.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial gifts be forwarded to the Mayo Clinic Heart Transplant Program, 200 First St., S.W., Rochester, Minn., 55905.
