LAMPASAS Services for William S. ?Bill? Yeary, 85, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Dodson-Sneed Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with Dr. Ricky L. Burk officiating.

Burial with military honors will follow at Naruna Cemetery.

Yeary died July 30, 2004, in Ruidoso, N.M.

He was born June 21, 1919, in Northern Burnet County, the son of Rufus Silas Yeary and the former Pearl Cook.

Yeary served his country proudly during World War II with the 36th Infantry Division that was among the first troops to invade Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.

Yeary married the former Modeana Watson March 16, 1946, in Belton. She preceded him in death in June 1991.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kempner, the AMVETS and the Saratoga Masonic Lodge.

Yeary bred show dogs and loved coon hunting and was a member of the American Red Bone Coon Hound Association. He was honored as Red Bone Man of the Year.

Survivors include a son, Billy Yeary; a daughter, Nancy Herrmann of Lampasas; a brother, Willerson Yeary; and two grandchildren.

Yeary was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Doyle Yeary and Herman Yeary; and two sisters, Mary Ella Yeary and Cora Moore.

Memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ray married Bonnie Katherine Chesser Parks on Jun 15, 1990. Ray married Janice Kaufman Roach at Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma. Ray was buried at Altius Cemetery, Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma. He died on Feb 15, 2004 at Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma, at age 79.


Ray Webster Southern, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 17, 1925 in Altus to Daniel Webster Southern and Leona Southern Pierce.

He was a lifelong resident of Altus and Jackson County. He graduated from Ozark High School in 1943 and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp 4th Marine Division. He was wounded in 1944 while fighting in the Asiatic Pacific Area, at Saipan. Southern was honorably discharged from the USMC and received the Purple Heart from wounds received during combat. Southern was a long time and active member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ, an active participant with the Red Cross Blood Drive, NARFE, the American Legion, VFW, Lions Club and retired as Postmaster from the Altus Postal Service.

Southern is survived by his wife Janice of Altus; three daughters, Linda Southern of Carrollton, Texas, Darla Johnson and husband Alan of Mounds and Elaine Guthrie and husband Larry of Melbourne, Ark; five grandchildren, Paul Johnson and wife Amy of Oklahoma City, Karen Rackley and husband Kyle of Mounds, Linda Stevenson and husband Chad of Bixby, Daniel Johnson of Mounds and Diana Stevens of Melbourne; four great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Myrtle Johnson of Altus; one brother, Eugene Southern and wife Bernice of Mesa, Ariz; two sisters, Louise Lemaster and husband Ellis of Friendship and Ella Ruth Thornton and husband Billy "Red" of Smyrna, Tenn; special family friend Connie Crow of Dallas; one step-grandson, Brad Guthrie and wife Rebecca of Melbourne, Ark; three step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Gleola Johnson Southern in 1988, second wife Bonnie Chesser Parks Southern in 1996, one brother Dee Southern and a nephew Danny Southern.

Services for Southern are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ with Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family of Southern will greet friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
