WESTERFIELD, ORVILLE A., 83, passed away Friday at Park Terrace Health Campus.

He was raised in Ohio County, KY by his parents, Alfred and Loretta (Crowder) Westerfield. He was a retired foreman for Corhart Refractories and was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a Christian by Faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Maxine (Ford) Westerfield; his parents; and two brothers, R.C. and Dwight Westerfield.

Survivors include his children, Patricia R. Hosch (Gordon) and Melody D. Hammond; grandchildren, Shannon Spivey, Brian Hosch (Angela), Nicole Hirst (Chad), Craig Hammond (Casie) and Natalie Hammond; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy, with burial in Beth Haven Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday. Online condolences to owenfuneralhome.com.

Services for John Shelton Ballard, a farmer in the Trebloc area for several years, were held Wednesday afternoon, July 3, in the chapel of Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen. The Revs N F Davis and J D Seagroves officiated.

Mr Ballard died Tuesday evening in Medical Arts Clinic at Aberdeen after an extended illness.

Born in Fayette County KY, Mrs Ballard had lived in Chickasaw County near the Trebloc area for 25 years. He was a member of Berea Christian Church there.

He leaves his wife, Mrs Margaret Ballard; two sons, Eugene Crawley of Aberdeen and C W Crawley of Houston; eight brothers, Henry, Howard and Meredith Ballard of Egypt, Jesse and Robert Ballard of Louisville KY; Clay and June W Ballard of Aberdeen and Deward Ballard of Houston TX;three sisters, Mrs Frances Champlin of Troy OH; Mrs Susie Smith of Derma; and Mrs Irma Suttles of Norwood OH; and one grandson.

The body was taken to Lexington KY for burial there.

LORAIN — Geneva Vivian (Edge) Crowley, age 103, passed from this life to her eternal reward on Tuesday, August 03,2010 at 12:00 A.M. at New Life Hospice, Lorain, Ohio.

Born October 2,1906 to Mr. and Mrs. Ancel Samuel Edge and Nettie B. (Farmer) Edge near Fordsville, Kentucky, she was one of eight children.

Her brothers and sisters were: Cholra (Edge) Miller, wife of Nolen Miller, Ella Marie (Edge) Evans, wife of C. Delmer Evans, Georgia Lee (Edge )Miller, former wife of Herbert Lee Griffith, wife of Everett Miller, Leslie Bethel Edge, husband of Edna C. (Brown) Edge, Freddie Edge (deceased at age 6), Lawrence Edge, husband of Clara (Ralph) Edge, and Ruby G. (Edge) Royal, wife of William Davis Royal. They all had predeceased her.

Geneva attended a one-room schoolhouse near Fordsville, Ky. and then married her childhood sweetheart, Everett Crowley in 1925. They resided in the Fordsville, Ky. area for a few years and then relocated their home to the Hammond, Indiana area when Everett found work in the oil industry there. Geneva also obtained employment in the garment creating industry and remained employed by the Given’s Manufacturing Company until her retirement at age 65. She supervised many other ladies in the making of men’s dress suits.

Both Geneva and Everett were dedicated Christians at the Hessville Church of Christ. Married for over 71 years at Everett’s death in 1986, Geneva and Everett had no children although they enjoyed their many nieces and nephews.

Geneva relocated to Lorain, Ohio in September 2004, coming from her home in the Hessville section of Hammond, Indiana to be under the loving care of her devoted niece, Nancy S. (Royal) King. She resided at Hearthstone Assisted Living for 4 years then moved to her current home at Adult Care by Sandy, 6410 Orchard Hill Dr. Lorain, Ohio. After Nancy’s death last October 24th, 2009, she has been cared for by her niece, Ann Genette Royal-Younkin, Sheffield Township, Lorain, with the assistance of niece, Charlotte (Miller) Mazul of Burlington, Ky. and great-niece Pamela Ann (Palmer) Pittman of Pataskala, Oh.

Geneva is also survived by niece, Zelma Lee (Griffith) Toth (formerly Wooldridge) of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and nephew, Dale Edge of Hardinsburg, Ky. Geneva has many other Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews residing all across the United States and Hawaii.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 7, 2010, at 10 A.M. until time of the Service at 11 A.M. at the Toledo Road Church of Christ, 5065 Toledo Road, Lorain, Oh. Mr. James Hiser, Minister will officiate. Local arrangements entrusted to the Morman Funeral Home, Wakeman, Ohio.

Geneva will then travel back to Fordsville, Ky. for visitation there on Sunday, August 8th, 2010, from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the Geary Funeral Horne, 19 Hartford Street, Fordsville, Ky. Burial will follow Sunday’s visitation at Friendship Church of Christ Cemetery, Sunnydale Road, Fordsville, Ky. next to her husband, Everett Crowley. Floral tributes should be delivered to the Toledo Road Church of Christ, 5065 Toledo Rd, Lorain, Oh on Saturday morning prior to 9 A.M. please.
