Dr.DeWitt C.Tucker was born near Lebanon,KY on October 3,1832. He was the 11th child of four sons and eight daughters,(11 of which lived to be adults) born to James H. and Nancy (Kennett)Tucker. James H. was born in VA in 1787 and was brought to KY in 1790 by his parents.James H. was the son of the Rev.John Tucker, a Methodist Episcopal minister who was born in VA and migrated to Adair Co.KY,and settled on the Green River,northeast of Columbia in a fort. While the boys were out hunting,Mr.and Mrs.Tucker took a stroll around the fort and were both killed by the Indians. A negro,Stepay,who came with them took the children and remained in the cane till the next day. One of the children was an infant, but seemed to know by instinct the situation and kept still. The six children were:
Matthew, Edmond,James Hall,Clarinda,Polly and Frances.These children were taken in and reared by different people. Matthew and Clarinda married and moved to MO.
