Allan Vandevere Brokaw, 92, of Hanover, Illinois, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Provena Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora, Illinois.

Funeral services will be 3 PM Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the Hanover United Presbyterian Church. Reverend Kendrick Matthews will officiate. Burial will be in the Log Church Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 PM Thursday, March 18, 2004 at the church. Memorials may be made to the Hanover United Presbyterian Church in Allan's name.

Allan was born on February 26, 1912, the oldest of six children, to Abraham and Anna Brokaw in Stronghurst, Illinois. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Mildred Speer on December 9, 1944 and farmed for 55 years near Hanover, Illinois. Allan was a dairyman until 1987 and continued for farm until moving to Aurora, Illinois in 2000, first residing at his son's home and later in Countryside Care Centre.

Allan was active in Farm Bureau and served as an Elder in the Hanover United Presbyterian Church. He also loved to play softball and stopped pitching and became a spectator at age 52.

He is survived by two children, Leonard (Shirley) Brokaw of Montgomery, IL and Louise Brokaw of Saginaw, MI; three grandchildren, Michelle (Kesley) Dalrymple of LaGrange, GA, Brian Brokaw of DeKalb, IL and Aaron Brokaw of Hanover; three brothers, Robert (Helen Lee), Richard (Lois) and Harold; a brother-in-law, John (Florence) Service; and a sister-in-law, Donna Brokaw; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a brother, Weir Brokaw; a sister, Evelyn Service; and sister-in-law, Barbara Brokaw.

Bob died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.

Robert Edwin was born March 6, 1923, in Stronghurst, Ill., to A.L. and Anna Weir Brokaw. He married Helen Lee Peterson Dec. 9, 1950, in Aledo. She preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2005.
Bob farmed his entire life in Greene Township, Mercer County. He was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. In early years, he was a member of Rural Youth and met Helen Lee during that time. He enjoyed the Mercer County Church Softball League, bowling, card club, duck hunting and fishing trips with the family to Minnesota. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Bob was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, Viola, where he had been trustee, elder and deacon.

Bob is survived by his children and their spouses, Sharon and Bill Zigmont, Stockton, Ill., Debby and Jeff Brandon, Dalton City, Ill., Mark Brokaw and partner, Andrew Farber, New York City, Bradley and Susan Brokaw and Christina and Brett Nelson, all of Aledo; brothers, Harold Brokaw, South Carolina, Richard Brokaw and his wife, Lois, Osco; a sister-in-law, Dona Brokaw, Aledo; and a brother-in-law and his wife, John Service and Florence, Moline; 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Lee; a sister, Evelyn Service; two brothers and their spouses, Weir and Pearl Brokaw and Allan and Mildred Brokaw; and a sister-in-law, Barb Brokaw.
