Mary Elizabeth McGovern was born in Macoupin county, Illinois; came to Oklahoma with her parents in 1900 and was married to Sewell Conover on May 27, 1906; died Sept. 28th, 1907 after a short illness. Funeral was held at the home, W.D. Adams conducting the services, and she laid to rest in the Lone Star Cemetery close to the Elmot posf office.

The departed was a devout member of the United Brethren Church and was a noble Christian woman. She leaves a husband, father and mother, two sisters, Mrs. W.A. Stafford of Bellingham, Washington and Mrs. Colombus H. Mitchell of Elmot, and one brother, Fred McGovern of Kansas city, Missouri to mourn their loss. The brother and sister in Washington were not present at the funeral. Fred arrived here Monday after his sister had been laid away. We join a large circle of friends in expressions of sincere sympathy to the bereaved ones.

FINAL RITES CONDUCTED FOR JOHN B. MCILWAINE

Final rites were conducted Saturday for John B. McIlwaine in the Methodist Church with the Rev, Roy E. Frey, pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the Hoisington Cemetery under auspices of Hoisington Lodge A.F.&A.M.

Serving as casket bearers during the rites were Major Benson, Cecil Keltner, Jess Mall, O.L. Martin, George Laughlin, and Roy Humphrey. the following obituary was read during the service:

John Bruce McIlwaine, son of John and Margaret McIlwaine, was born in Douglas county, Kansas April 2, 1870 and died at his home in Hoisington, 172 West Sixth, February 26, 1953 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 24 days.

He spent his boyhood on a farm near Lawrence, Kansas. At the age of 11 the responsibility of caring for his mother and invalid father fell on his shoulders. He farmed near Fontana, Kansas until he entered railroad work on the Missouri Pacific at Osawatamie in 1899. He retired as an engineer on the Colorado Division of the Missouri Pacific in 1943 after 43 years of service.

On June 1, 1893 J.B. was united in marriage to Winnie Conover at Pleasanton, Kansas. They moved to Hoisington in 1905 and have resided in this city for 48 years. Mr. and Mrs. McIlwaine celebrated their 50th wedding in 1943 and were looking forward to their 60th anniversary which would have been observed June 1 of this year. To this union were born four children: John Oliver, Ralph W., Athlyn, and Helen.

J.B. had served as General Chairman of Engineers for the missoura Pacific System with his office at St. Louis and was local chairman for many years. He was a member of the 40 Year Mo Pac. Veterans Club.

Mr. McIlwaine was most active in Masonic circles, having served as Master of Hoisington Lodge No. 331 and as District Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Kansas. He was a member of the Salina Consistory and Isis Temple Shrine, a Knight in the Great Bend Commandery, and a Knight Commander of the Court of Honor.

He joined the Methodist Church in Fontana at the age of 17. He was a Trustee of the Hoisington Methodist Church, had served as Lay Delegate, Lay Master, Sunday School Supt., a member of the choir, and was a member of the Building Committee which planned and completed the new church building at Third and Clay. He was a teacher of the Men's Bible Class for many years.

Mr. McIlwaine, a devoted husband and father, is survived by his wife and companion of almost sixty years, Winnie (Conover) McIlwaine; four children, J. Oliver McIlwaine of Wichita, Ralph W. McIlwaine of Hutchinson, Mrs. W.B. (Athlyn) Pritchett of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Mrs. John Jason (Helen) Meyer of Hoisington; also four grandchildren.

J.B. liked people and made friends wherever he went and was always glad of any opportunity to meet and visit with others. He and Mrs. McIlwaine enjoyed numerous trips throughout his life, many of them since his retirement. He kept on touch with old friends in Miami County through the years and often attended the annual Osage Township Old Settlers' Picnic there. He and Mrs. McIlwaine were also members of the True Vowkeepers Club and attended many annual meetings.

JOHN O. McILWAINE, 86, of 618 St. James Place, retired loan officer for Wichita Federal Savings & Loan, died Monday. Service 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Downing & Lahey Mortuary.
Survivors: wife, Delia; son, Charles of Wichita; brother, Ralph W. of Hutchinson; sisters, Helen Meyer of Hoisington, Athyln Pritchett of Pittsburg. Memorials have been established with Youthville, Newton, and American Cancer Society.

Ralph Waldo McIlwaine died on Nov 20, 1988 at Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas, at age 87. Ralph was buried on Nov 22, 1988 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas.
     He resided at at Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas, on Mar 10, 1960.

RALPH W. MCILWAINE

Ralph W. McIlwaine, 87, of 15 29th Court, died Nov. 20, 1988 at Good Samaritan Center. Born Sept. 23, 1901 at Osawatamie, he married Ermine Werts Sept. 3, 1927 at Republic. He was a teacher at Liberty and Central junior high schools, retiring in 1965, later owning the Larkland Laundromat, retiring in 1975, and was a resident of Hutchinson since 1929.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson Masonic Lodge No. 445, Acacia Chapter No. 464 Order of the Eastern Star, Hutchinson, was past patron of Galva Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of Wichita Consistory.

Survivors: wife of the home; son R. Wesley, Lawson, Mo; sister Athlyn Pritchett, Pittsburg; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be 2 pm Tuesday at Elliott Chapel, the Rev. Nicholas Warner. Masonic graveside service will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 am to 9 pm today and from 9 am until 2 pm Tuesday at the mortuary. Memorials may go to the Good Samaritan Center or the church.
