Rites planned Friday for Mrs. Eva Bower at Oakland, California

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Bower, 92, of Yuma, who died Tuesday in Oakland, CA will be held in Oakland Friday. According to word received by local relatives, burial will also be held in Coast City.

Mrs. Bower had lived in Yuma for the past 20 years, most of he time with her son, the late J. C. Bower, Yuma restaurant owner, but spent each summer with other children in Oakland. One of he surviving children is Bill Bower of Yuma.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted tomorrow for Mrs. Ruth Eleanor Korn, member of a long time Redlands Citrus growing family, who died New Year's day.

Mrs. Korn, 70, of 433 Ash Street, was the mother of Marion H. Poyzer, Redlands City Treasurer. She had resided in the community for nearly 50 year's.

A native of Emporia, Kansas., Mrs. Korn came to Redlands in 1919 with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Peter S. Garretson. She and her husband, the late Bill Korn, owned citrus groves in various pars of town. Most of the groves have been removed for urban uses.

The couple had sold all of their citrus acreage by the early 1950's, but Mrs. Korn has continued her membership in the Farm Bureau.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Korn is survived by four grandchildren, Loretta C. Poyzer, Neil H. Poyzer, Roger W. Poyzer, and Lee Jeffery Poyzer, all of Redlands.

Services will be conducted at 11 a. m. at Hillside memorial Park, with Rev. Frank M. Toothaker officiating. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contibutions to their favorite charity.

Howard Foster Garretson, 1503 Stillman avenue, native of Emporia, Kan., and resident of Redlands for 44 years, died in Mentone today at the age of 60.
During his years in Redlands, Mr. Garretson served as vice president of the Jewel Water Company and was a member ofthe Redlands Elks lodge.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Clara Garretson; two sons, Peter and David Garretson; two daughters, Betty and Naomi Garretson; a sister, Mrs. Ruth E. Korn; a nephew, Marion Poyzer, and a grandson, John Howard Garretson, all of Redlands.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the F. Arthur Cortner chapel. Burial services at Hillside Memorial Park will be conducted by the Redlands Elks club.

Gladys Poyzer, 84
Gladys D. Poyzer, mother of Redlands city clerk Lorrie Poyzer and widow of former city treasurer Marion Poyzer, died of respiratory failure March 10 at Redlands Community Hospital. She was 84.

She was born July 25, 1923, in Arverne in the New York City borough of Queens. Her parents, Leonard and Lena Devahl, were Swedish immigrants who came to the United States in the early 1900s via Ellis Island.

She was an honor student and graduate of Far Rockaway High School in New York.

In September 1941 she moved to Pasadena with her parents and worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. in the central office in Pasadena.

After the United States entered World War II, she joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. Following boot camp in New York and training school in Georgia, she was stationed at the U.S. Navy Repair Base in San Diego.

While working in the disbursing office, she met her future husband, Marion H. Poyzer of Redlands.

She was discharged from the Navy in 1946 with the rank of storekeeper (disbursing) second class.

She and her husband were married Feb. 15, 1946, in Redlands, in Fire Chief Carl Rundberg's living room.

Her husband was Redlands city treasurer from 1957 until he retired in 1974.

During those years, she did volunteer work with the Redlands dog clinics her husband started. At the clinics, held in a park in the summer, people could bring their dogs for rabies vaccinations and licensing.

She also volunteered at the Kingsbury Elementary School library and the A.K. Smiley Public Library.

Her husband died Nov. 11, 1979.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter Lorrie Poyzer, include sons Roger Poyzer and Lee Poyzer, both of Redlands, and Neil Poyzer of Beaumont.

At her request, there will be no services. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery. Cortner Chapel is handling arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Redlands Animal Shelter or a charity of the donor's choice.

      Josephine Garretson was born on Mar 23, 1867 at Fairview, Fulton County, Illinois. She was the daughter of Peter Voorhees Garretson and Sophia Van Doren Wyckoff. Josephine Garretson died on May 8, 1963 at San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California, at age 96.

Dies at 96

Miss Josephme Garretson, who came to Redlands in 1901 and has lived here ever since, died in San rnardino yesterday at the ageof 96. She was a native of Fairview, III.

Miss Garretson taught school in Kansas for 10 years before coming to Redlands where she lived at 250 Nordina street. She was a member of the Redlands First Methodist church.

She leaves one nephew, Howard Garretson of Redlands; and three nieces, Mrs. V. C. Brackney of Lynwood, Mrs. Madge Rich of Sacramento and Mrs. Ruth E. Korn of Redlands.

Graveside services are arranged for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park, F. Arthur Cortner chapel in charge.

John Howell Garretson died on Sep 18, 1949 at Orange, Orange County, California, at age 80.

      Agnes F. Strain was born on Sep 8, 1875 at Illinois. Agnes married John Howell Garretson, son of Peter Voorhees Garretson and Sophia Van Doren Wyckoff, circa 1904. Agnes F. Strain died on Aug 24, 1941 at Los Angeles County, California, at age 65.

      Nellie Simpson was born on Jul 8, 1871 at Lyon County, Kansas. She was the daughter of William Chambers Simpson and Margaret W. Ferguson. Nellie married John Howell Garretson, son of Peter Voorhees Garretson and Sophia Van Doren Wyckoff, circa 1891. Nellie Simpson died in Mar, 1901 at Jackson Twp., Lyon County, Kansas, at age 29.

      Florence Aida Garretson was born on Sep 6, 1891. She was born on Sep 9, 1891 at Kansas. She was the daughter of John Howell Garretson and Nellie Simpson. Florence married Vane Claude Brackney, son of Samuel Moore Brackney and Annie Lucine Craig, circa 1919. Florence Aida Garretson died on May 14, 1992 at Los Angeles County, California, at age 100.

      Vane Claude Brackney was born on Nov 8, 1894 at Leola, McPherson County, South Dakota. He was the son of Samuel Moore Brackney and Annie Lucine Craig. Vane married Florence Aida Garretson, daughter of John Howell Garretson and Nellie Simpson, circa 1919. Vane Claude Brackney died on Oct 22, 1968 at Los Angeles County, California, at age 73.

     Annie married Samuel Moore Brackney.
