Mrs Helen E Steel, Calvin, died Wednesday, October 14, 1970, 3 p.m. at the Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since September 12. She had been ill since May. She was 56.

She was born May 3, 1914 at Mapleton Depot RD, a daughter of Jesse and Nora (Crownover) Dell. She was twice married, first to Arthur Dell, who died in 1937, and then to Glenn Steel at Winchester, VA, July 30, 1945.

Surviving are her husband, her mother, Mrs Nora Dell, Mapleton Depot RD, and the following children: A Duane Dell of Lynn, Mass., Mrs David (Pamela) Hoffman, Three Springs; Kevin D Steel, Calvin, and Terry G Steel, at home.

Also surviving are four grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs Lester Leonard, Mapleton Depot RD, and Mrs Iva Grose, Huntingdon.

Mrs Steel was a member of the Calvin United Methodist Church, where she was choir leader and a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of the Trout Creek Valley Fire Co Auxiliary and a former board member of Local 424 Amalgamated Clothing Workers.

For the past 12 years she was employed by Mount Union Manufacturing Company.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 17, from the McClain Funeral Home, Cassville, with the Rev Robert M Sunderland officiating. Interment will be made in Cassville Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday and until the hour of the services Saturday.

YOUTH, CAUGHT IN ROCK SLIDE, DIED OF HIS INJURIES

David A Dell, 29, Quarry Worker, Victim of Fatal Accident At Three Springs

HAD BEEN AT WORK ONLY FOUR DAYS

David Arthur Dell, 29, son of Howard W and Sarah (Park) Dell of Mapleton RD, was killed instantly at the North American Refractories stone quarry at Three Springs, on Sunday afternoon, Apr 25, 1937, at 1 o'clock. Mr Dell had been employed at the stone quarry only four days prior to the accident.

Due to the wet weather a quantity of rock had been loosened and a slide of rock started down through the quarry. Mr Dell was aware of the slide and tried to escape, but in so doing was hit on the back of the head with a huge boulder, crushing his skull.

Coroner William B West, MD, of Huntingdon, was summoned to investigate the accident, and reported that death was "accidental, instant and due to a crushed skull".

He was born at Mapleton, RD, on January 29, 1908. At the time of death he was aged 29 years, 2 months and 28 days.

On August 4, 1932, he was united in marriage with Helen Dell of Mapleton, RD, who survives with one son, Duane, aged four years.

He also leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Mr and Mrs Howard W Dell of Mapleton RD, and the following brothers and sisters: G Wesley Dell of Mapleton RD, Mrs Alberta Park of Akron, Ohio, Mrs Gertrude McNerlin of Cassville, Mrs Sylvia Skipper of Mapleton Depot and Michael Dell of Mapleton RD.

Short prayer services will be held at the home of his parents at Mapleton rD on Wednesday afternoon, Apr 28, 1937, at 2 o'clock and further services will be held at the Cornelius Chapel in Hares Valley, upon the arrival of the funeral cortege. The Rev W W Breckbill will officiate. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery.
