Helen I. Trump, 90, of Ft. Wayne, formerly of the New Madison area, died January 29, 2010 at the Golden Living Center, Richmond, Indiana. Mrs. Trump was born in Preble County on January 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Treva (Schellenbarger) Banta. Helen was a retired Sales Person for the former Quality Farm and Fleet, Greenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick L. Trump, who died September 21, 2008 and a brother George Banta. She is survived by Daughter Diana Ruble of Ft. Wayne; Son Frederick Lloyd Trump II of New Madison; 3 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; sisters Elsie Wise of New Paris and Alice Sandlin of Englewood. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum with Rev Doug Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Castine Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

Alice M. Sandlin, age 84, of Eaton, OH, passed away Friday afternoon, March 25, 2011. Born January 26, 1927 in Preble County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur & Treva (Sheller) Banta. She worked for many years as a waitress in various restaurants including Wheeler’s and Denny’s in Richmond, IN and Eaton Country Club, St. Clair Inn and Country Cooker restaurants in Eaton. She attended the First Brethren Church in West Alexandria. She enjoyed travel and made it to 48 of the 50 states. She also enjoyed playing cards, and making various crafts. In addition to her parents, Alice is preceded in death by husband of 40 years E. Dean Sandlin on December 15, 1991: son Donald Shumaker in 1989: grandson Donald Shumaker, Jr. in 1964: daughter-in-law Darlene Sandlin in 2007: brother George Banta: and sister Helen Trump. Mrs. Huldah C. Newman, age 67, sister of a Lewisburg area man, died Monday, Jan. 21, at Good Samaritan hospital in Dayton, after a short illness. She resided on R.R. 2, Eaton.

Mrs. Newman was a Preble county native and a former cook at the Jackson school. She was a member of the Campbellstown United Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Herbert; father, James W. Mt. Castle of R.R.3, Eaton; three daughters, Mrs. Donna Heath of Richmond, Ind., Mrs. Betty Barker of R.R.3, Eaton, and Mrs. Ruthanna Goodpasture of Bourbonnais, Ill; two sons, James of R.R.2, Eaton and Francis "Gene" of Eaton; three brothers, Paul Mt. Castle of Lewisburg, Gerald Mt. Castle of Malinta, and Marvin Mt. Castle of Eaton; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 23 at the Barnes funeral home with Rev. Branson J. Hawkes officiating. Interment was in Twin Creek cemetery near West Manchester.

JAMES R. NEWMAN, age 76, formerly of Eaton, Ohio died Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Heartland of Urbana, Ohio. Born on November 12, 1927 in Preble County, Ohio, he was the son on the late Herbert D. & Huldah C. (Mt Castle) Newman. A 1945 Graduate of Jackson High School in Preble County, he attended Ohio State University and was a WW II U.S. Army veteran. He retired in 1982 from the Delco Moraine plant of General Motors after 33 years of service. Member of the 25 year club of Delco Moraine; Charter member of the Full Gospel Businessmen of Preble County, served as the Worship Psalmist of the Oak Park Church of God and presently attended the Living Word Church - Vandalia, Ohio.

Survived by: Wife of 40 years Patricia (Dungan) Newman and children Teresa M. (Cox) Rose of Vandalia, Ohio and Edward D. Newman of Vandalia, Ohio. His first wife: Eleanor "Gale" (Minnix) Tucker of Aurora, Indiana and children: Paul F. Newman of Eaton, Ohio, Rita J. Newman of Houston, Texas, Tina G. Newman of Middletown, Ohio and Daniel R. Newman of Hamilton, Ohio. Brother: Francis "Gene" Newman of Richmond, Indiana. Sisters: Donna A. Goodwin of Sebring, Florida, Betty J. Barker of Eaton, Ohio and Ruth Anna Goodpasture of Bourbonnais, Illinois. Nine Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.

She had also worked as the Administrative Assistant for Farm Credit Service for 38 years retiring in 1978 . Member of Eaton United Church of Christ.

SWANK, (Mary) Kathryn, age 95, long time Lewisburg resident, died May 2, 2005, at Koester Pavilion in Troy. She was born October 30, 1909, the daughter of John E. and Nellie A. (Banta) Swank. Her sister Ruby and brothers Ross and Carle preceded her in death. She began working in the Lewisburg post office in 1936, and served as postmaster from 1962 to 1970. She was well known for her cake decorating business after retirement. She was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, was active in the Alturian club, and was a volunteer at Grandview Hospital. She moved to the Villas of Brookhaven in 1987. For all who crossed her path, and especially for her nieces and nephews, she was a role model of strength, commitment, spunkiness, wit, and grace. Truly a woman of her time, ahead of her time. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Gladys Swank, of Troy. He died on Jan 24, 1917 at Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, at age 63.
