      Mathew was the owner of 100 acres of land near Pluckemin, and besides being a store-keeper, is said to have been the first postmaster of Pluckemin. He was well educated and wrote a clear business hand. His store adjoined his residence. During the revolution, after the battle of Princeton, when Washington went to Pluckemin, "in the Mathew Lane house, it is said, the thirteen captured (British) officers were placed under guard." His personal property was inventoried at $7, 266.82, and included five slaves inventoried at $765, showing that he was for those times, a man of means.

Edith Elaine Jameson, 98, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Van Buren. She was born Nov. 6, 1906, in Cavanaugh. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and of the Jolly Travelers senior adult group. She was the widow of Clyde.

Funeral was Friday with burial at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
She is survived by a daughter, Cleta Terrell of Hackett; a son, Clifton of Van Buren; two sisters, Irma Inklebarger of Barling and Wanda Tollenaar of Clyde, Alberta, Canada; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grand Avenue Baptist Church, 921 N. 39th, Fort Smith, AR 72904.
