For the benefit of the Poisett descendants I shall include what the “Andreas History of Kansas 1882” has to say about the family, p. 835.

“J. V. Poisett, farmer in Section 15 (Neosho County) P. O., Osage Mission (St. Paul) native of Fulton County, Illinois was born in 1845. He came to Kansas in May, 1868, locating in Neosho County, on the present farm. He came in company of Mr. Dougherty, bringing but little with them. Their money was soon gone so Mr. Poisett went to freighting from Kansas City to Osage Mission and when the Land League was formed to give settlers their land he worked in unison and paid his amount to that purpose, deeding his farm in 1877. He settled on it and was improving, now having 100 acres fenced with an orchard of apple and peach trees, with some vines. He reported fine crops in 1882. In 1878, Mr. Poisett married Miss Smith, a daughter of T. Smith, a pioneer of Lecompton (Kansas). They have three children, two boys and one girl.” (I believe one of these boys was Jake.)

She moved back to Dodge City, in 1979 and resided in Dodge City until 1989 at which time she was moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona. She was put in the hospital for Alhemzer Disease.

DODGE CITY - Ethel May Moody, 93, died May 23, 2004, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home, Dodge City.
She was born July 2, 1910, at Spearville, the daughter of George and Etta Leah Richardson Moody. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1929. A longtime Dodge City resident, she was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward, Dodge City, for 46 years.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Dodge City, Christian Women's Club, where she was a past officer, Business and Professional Women, where she was a past officer, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, including both local and state offices, Dodge City, and Daughters of Union Veterans Civil War 1861-1865, where she was a past state president.
She is survived by a nephew, Howard Kurtz, New York Mills, Minn.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Pearl E. Moody.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Mr. Larry Williams presiding and ESA sorority rites. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greencrest Cemetery, Dodge City.
Memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.

“Four young persons were killed instantly and three others were injured, two seriously, when a Missouri, Kansas & Texas freight train backed into a motor car at Walnut, Sunday evening. The automobile, which belonged to Donald Dalton, was caught at right angles on the crossing and rolled over and over and ground out of shape. The bodies of all those killed were terribly mangled, only one retaining any semblance of human kind. Killed were Claire Ermey, 18, and Donald Dalton, 18 both of Kimball, and Miss Omega Lee, 16, and Miss Helen, 14 both of Walnut. Injured were Miss Marie Squires, 14, and Felix Lee, 4, and Miss Gladys Squires, 16. all of Walnut. Miss Marie Squires and Felix Lee are in serious condition and Miss Gladys Squires is not hurt seriously. The young people were on their way to an ice cream parlor for refreshments.”.
