Genevieve Maxine ?Gen? Friar passed away on Sunday July 2, 2006 at the age of 89. She was born in Steuben, Wisconsin on August 2, 1916, the daughter of Henry Jackson and Lucinda Mary (Ward) Kielley. She married Michael E. Friar on January 5, 1938 in Iowa. Gen moved to Boscobel, WI in 1955 where she resided for 44 years. Gen and Mike had two children, Patricia Mary and Michael Edward. After her husband Mike?s death on October 1, 1946, Gen took over management operations of the family farm properties. She raised her two children alone, sending Mary on to St. Mary?s Nursing School in Madison WI, and Michael to the Milwaukee School of Engineering. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Boscobel, WI. She moved to Elburn IL in 1999 to be closer to family. She lived at The Meadows Senior Housing Apartments. In 2002 she entered Meadow Brook Manor Nursing Home in Naperville where she resided until her death.
Gen was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her daughter, Mary remembers growing up with her mother?s wonderful sense of humor. Gen was an avid card player, spending many hours with friends over a game. She filled her summers with visits from grandchildren enjoying daily trips to the farms, nightly card games, ?baby beers? and twist cones from the local A&W. In later years, during frequent weekend stays with grandchildren, she spent hours playing with her great grandchildren. She had a special relationship with her great granddaughter, Megan, who would smile and laugh excitedly at the sound of Grandma Friar?s voice.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Mary (Thomas) Nugent of Ottawa, IL; her grandchildren, Steven (Jackie) Nugent, Teresa (Don) Green, Dana (Gary) Goodin, Michael Nugent, Jean (Kevin) Maloney, Mary (Steve) Kenyeri, Julie (David) Richmond, Rebecca (Joe) Endres, Kathy (Todd) Daggett; twenty-six great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Friar, her parents; sisters, Velma Watson, Opal Miller, Iris Kielley, Beatrice Duprey, Jackie Sturtz; son, Micheal E. Friar; nephew, Jack Duprey and niece, Mary Rae Sturtz McMurrin.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Immaculate Conception Church in Boscobel, WI. Burial will follow at Boscobel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Nugent, Michael Nugent, Donald Green, Gary Goodin, David Richmond, and Todd Daggett. Memorials may be sent to: Immaculate Conception Church 405 E.
