Jacob Castleman La Rue died in 1890 at Dexter, Stoddard County, Missouri. He was buried at Kinder Cemetery, Holly Preserve, Stoddard County, Missouri. Buried in an unmarked grave. ' About the LaRue Family' written by Charles B. LaRue My grandfather Jacob LaRue and Grandma Rhoda Frances Perry LaRue were married and lived in Hardin County, Kentucky until the year 1869. They moved to Stoddard County, Mo. near Bloomfield and later moved to Dexter where they ran a boarding house for railroad employees building the Cairo Branch from Poplar Bluff to Cairo Mo. for the Missouri Pacific R.R. Grandpa worked with the RR crew also. In 1874, he again turned his attention to agriculture and moved his family to the old Holmes Farm (known now as the John A. Montgomery Farm). He also bought and sold livestock. We have records of my Grandfather Jacob being gone two and three weeks at a time trading and dealing in livestock. He died in the year 1878 at the age of 56 years leaving his widow and 13 children and then two years later in 1880 the oldest son, James M. died. This also recorded in the history of Southeast Missouri. After the death of James, my father being the oldest of the boys had to take over as head of the family and from there will tell things my father, J.P. has told me. He said several of the family died from typhoid and malaria fever, because moving from the high country to the swamps that were infested with mosquitos and snakes and people who moved here from higher lands had chills a plenty. My father also told of one brother, Charlie that I was named for, getting thrown and killed by a horse coming out of Dexter with groceries for his mother's family. No date of that.
