Thomas Charles Milburn, 77, of Rolla, died December 6, 1998 at the Stanton County Hospital in Johnson. He was a farmer and loved the land.
He was born June 25, 1921 in the Dermont Community of Morton County, Kansas, the son of Pete Ervin and Lillis Faye (Gillum) Milburn. He went Antelope Valley School; Rolla High School and Graduated from Hugoton Hig School in 1940. He was presently a member of the Rolla United Methodist Church; Cimarron Basin Advisory Committee. He ;has served and was an officer on the following boards including District #23-Dermont Schoo; United Methodist Church; Morton County Hospital, Morton County Fair Board; Dermont 4-H Cllub leader; Morton County Extension Board; Rolla Co-operative Association; SW Kansas Irrigation Association; SW Kansas Groundwater Management-Distraict #3.
He married Dorothy Scott on July 30, 1949 and to this union were born two children, Gary James Whaley of Dallas, Texas and Kreisstine Diane (Whaley0 Fuller of San Antonio, Texas. This marriage ended in divorce in 1955 and the children took the last name of Whaley from their step-father. The children were reunited with their father in 1995 after 40 years of separation.
On Feb 1, 1959, he married Dorothy Eleanor Higgins at the United Methodist Church at Rolla. To this union was born one daughter, Shurma Rae Messenger of Hugoton and two sons, Mervin Dale "Pete" Milburn of Rolla, Jeffrey Lynn Milburn of Elkhart. All survive. Other survivors include three grandsons, Garret and Russ Messenger of Hugoton, Joshua Kreklau of Elkhart; three granddaughters, Nikki, Heather and Lacy Varner ofo Elkhart; two sisters, Alma Myers and Grace Drew of Hugoton; one brother, Elver C. Milburn of Rolla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Earl S. Milburn and 1 sister, Emma F. Stoner. Buried Richfield Cemetery, Richfield, Kansas.
