Golda Broyles Dies Jan. 7
Funeral services for Mrs. Golda Broyles were conducted from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Monday afternoon. Mrs. Broyles died Jan. 7 in the Jewell County Hospital at Mankato at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 18 days. Golda Bell Reid was born September 20, 1890, near Odell, Nebraska to George and Mary Cozine Reid. On October 26, 1910, she was united in marriage with James W. Broyles at the home of her uncle, John Reid, near Webber, Kansas. To this union six children were born. Mr. Broyles died December 24, 1955. She and her husband lived on a farm in the Olive Hill community for 35 years until his health failed. They moved to Formoso, Kansas, where they lived until his death. She has since lived in Mankato and Superior. She loved to sew, a talent she used
for herself, family and others, until two months ago when ill health prevented. During her lifetime, whenever a neighbor or friend had a need she was there and, after the death of her husband, she spent several years caring for older citizens in their homes. After the death of Mrs. John Harvey, she gave the same love and concern to her children as her own, and considered Bob, Louise, and Johnny as her family also. Mrs. Broyles was a member of the Olive Hill Church when she lived in the community and recently transferred her membership back to it. Her mother, father, stepfather, two half-brothers, a half-sister, her husband and a grandson preceded her in death. Survivors are her six children, Verlan Broyles of Webber, Mrs. Vernon Stone (Verdena) of Mankato, Mrs.
Clare Schuster (Zelda) of Superior, Mrs. Wallace Dare (Maxine) of Englewood, Colorado, Mrs. Arthur Cockroft (Lorine) of Burr Oak, Mrs. Deane Fogo (Orphamae) of Mankato, 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one half brother, Clarence Jones of Pomona, Kansas, and many other relatives and friends. Rev. Marvin Jenkins and Rev. Gorman Foley officiated and burial was in the Webber Cemetery.
