     JOHN POLLOCK. This gentleman has been a prominent figure in the political, business and religious circles of Washington county. His grandfather, John Pollock, was born near Gettysburg, Penn., and when a young man came to Washington county, locating on 133 acres of land in Union township, where his three children James, Samuel and Mary were reared.

John Pollock, son of James and Mary (Patten) Pollock, was born December 18, 1818, on the old place in Union township, Washington county. On January 1, 1851, he was united in marriage with Nancy, daughter of Isaac Van Voorhis, of Carroll township, Washington county. The young people then moved to Monongahela, where he was engaged in the lumber business for six years, after which they returned to their present farm of ninety-six acres in Union township, Washington county. To them were born children as follows: Mary, Coralinn, Sarah B., James K., Isaac V., William J., and one that died in infancy. Of these the only two living are Isaac V. and William J. The mother died July 9, 1884, since which time Mr. Pollock has resigned the management of the place to his two sons. He has always voted the Republican ticket, and has served in various township offices. In religious faith he is a member of the Presbyterian Church at Mingo, and has filled the office of trustee of same.

Imogene Pollom Azbell Burk, 98 Tucson, Ariz., and formerly of Greencastle, died Thursday.

Born in Cayuga, she was the daughter of Dr. M.R. and Ida Stroube Pollom.

A 1927 graduate of Greencastle High School, she played cornet in the orchestra, band, and school theatre orchestra, and sang in the school chorus and glee club. As a member of the Greencastle City Band, she played at the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race on two occasions. She retired from Greencastle Community Schools, where she served as financial secretary for 24 years. She was a 45-year member of First Christian Church in Greencastle, where she sang in the choir and Sunday school orchestra. She was also a charter member of Pusch Ridge Christian Church in Tucson and a member of the Order of Eastern Star 255 in Greencastle and Washburn Chapter D.A.R.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Ida May Baird and husband Joe, Russellville; two stepsons, Duane T. Burk, Terre Haute, and Malcolm E. Burk, Greencastle; three nieces, eight great-nephews, nine great-nieces, many great-great nieces and nephews.

Her parents; two husbands, Ross Houston Azbell and James Arthur Burk; three sisters, Lucille Pauley, Maxine Owens and Madeline Albin; two brothers, Morry Pollom and Dan Pollom; two nephews and a niece preceded her in death.

Funeral services will at 1 p.m. Friday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev, Alan Small officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

JOSEPH D. POLLOM is one of the leading business men of Brazil, the proprietor of two of the city's leading barber shops, and also extensively engaged in the real estate business and the vice president of the Central Land and Investment Company of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Lyon county, Kansas, near Emporia, March 9, 1869, a son of Luther and Emma (Boon) Pollom, the father born in Ohio, November 6, 1845, and the mother in Putnam county, Indiana, near Green Castle. Luther Pollom is now a farmer in Jackson township, Clay county, where he has resided and farmed since coming to Indiana in 1875. He is a member of the Christian church, and is a Republican politically.

Of the six children born to Luther and Emma (Boon) Pollom, four are now living and Joseph D. is the second oldest. He received his education in the public schools, and when but a youth of eighteen opened a barber shop in Harmony, Clay county, continuing in business there for about three years. From there he went to Knightsville, Indiana, and was in business in that city until coming to Brazil in 1894. He at once became prominently identified with the business interests of this community, and until recently was the proprietor of three barber shops here, having sold one, the Davis House, in 1907. He located in the Hill Block in 1899, in which is located his real estate office and one barber shop, and in his Walnut street shop he has three chairs. Mr. Pollom first entered the real estate field in June of 1907, and he handles both city property and farm lands in Clay county. At the present time he owns a number of lots in Brazil, and as above stated is the vice president of the Central Land and Investment Company, of Indianapolis, and as the representative of this and other companies ,dealing in Texas lands he spends about half of his time in taking parties to that state. The Central Land and Investment Company deals extensively in Texas Panhandle lands, which is especially adapted to the raising of wheat, corn and alfalfa, and special trains leave for that point every first and third Tuesday of each month.

Mr. Pollom married Miss Margaret Houk April 17, 1893. She was the daughter of John P.. Houk, and she died April 14, 1901, leaving one son, Roy Luther. For his second wife he married Miss Lena Tevis July 10, 1902. She was born in Illinois April 20, 1873, and is the daughter of William Tevis. Mr. Pollom is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Brazil Lodge No. 762 ; of the Knights of Pythias, Knightsville Lodge, No. 186 ; and of the Home Defenders No. 1. His political allegiance is with the Republican party.

In response to President Lincoln's call in July 1862 for 300,000 more men for the suppression of the slaveholders rebellion, meetings were held in each town and hamlet in Delaware County for raising troops. During the short space of twenty days the 144th infantry was mustered into the service of the United States at Camp Delaware on the county fairgrounds at Walton. Winifred Pomeroy Scott says that her father, Whiting G. Pomeroy, a Civil War Veteran, established a drug store in a small building across from the Adams store in 1871. In 1879 he built the building now occupied by Lor-Gene restaurant and operated his drug store there until a short time before his death in 1929. He was supervisor of the Town of Tompkins for two terms and was Town Clerk for more than thirty years.

Winifred Pomeroy Scott writes:
"My father and mother both attended the private school held in the Presbyterian parsonage, and as a little girl I remember the Rev. Gott, Baptist minister, coming to the house to give my sister private lessons.

"My grandfather, Joseph Babcock, and grandmother, Asby(?sp) Owens Babcock's home was where Marjorie Shackelton now lives, and my mother was born there in 1845. Grandfather had a boot and shoe shop in the little building adjoining the house. I have grandfather's ledger at home and it is very interesting.

"In 1862 a recruiting officer held a mass meeting in the Presbyterian church for recruits for the Civil War. My father was the second man to enlist in Company A 144th Delaware County Regiment and stayed in service until the close of the War."
