Many friends in Bristol Township and other parts of Kendall county were shocked, Saturday morning, to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Gertrude Conover at the home in Bristol. Mrs. Conover was taken ill Thursday, and the affliction rapidly developed into pneumonia. She was very all day Thursday, but Friday there seemed be a slight alleviation of the suffering and hope were entertained for her recovery. Complications with heart trouble developed and Saturday morning the death angel came to call the aged mother to her eternal rest, where she met her husband, the late John G. Conover, who passed away December 29, 1893. The funeral services were were held at the Yorkville Baptist Church of which the deceased has been a faithful member since January, 1896, and were conducted by Pastor Parker. Internment was in Oak Gove Cemetery, Bristol, in the family lot.
Gertude Bennett was born near Fort Hamilton, Long Island, New York, January 29, 1889, and was in her sixty eight year at the time of her
death. She was married to John G. Conover on December 27, 1866, and with him came to Illinois, where they settled in Bristol Township. To this union were born eight children -- two sons and six daughters, of whom six are living -- Jennie, Clemence, Grace, John, Gertrude and Marion; James and Catherine passed away a while still in infancy.
The death has left a void in a well know family of Kendall County. The young ladies and one son who remain to remember the love of a kind and affectionate mother have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends, not alone near home, but in many other towns where their influence has been felt. The sudden taking away of the mother is sincerely regretted, but she has gone to a brighter home -- gone to be with her husband and little ones who preceded her, and where she will be eternally happy to greet those who are left behind.

She was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bristol Twp., Kendall County, Illinois.

He was the son of the late Coy S. and Nellie Dove Bennett, of Jonesborough. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife, Pansie Barnett Bennett; after having been married for 57 years; also a brother, Niles Bennett; and a sister, Mildred Payne.

Mr. Bennett is survived by his daughter, Sandee Clyne and her husband, Alan, of Piney Flats, TN; a son, Randy Bennett and his wife, Jean, of Bristol, TN; a grandson, Christopher Bennett, of Knoxville, TN; a half sister, Janice Vines and her husband, Robert, of Jonesborough, TN; a half brother, Kenneth Bennett and his wife, Barbara, of Sarasota, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Wellmont Hospice House for their kindness and care of Mr. Bennett during his illness.

A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Happy Valley Memorial Park Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 12:30 PM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Mr. Bob Robinson will officiate. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620.

Mr. Bennett was a retired firemand for the Lehigh & Hudson River Railway Company of Warwick. He moved to West Virginia 12 years ago. He was born in Stockholm, N.J. on Nov. 30, 1898, to Edward and Annie Utter Bennett. He married to former Beulah fite. He was a member of the Branchland Baptist Church and a 60-year member of The Brotherhood of Railroad Locomotive Engineers and Fireman. He leaves hiswife; a son, Leon, of Port Jervis; four brothers, Wilfred and Ronald of Middletown, Edward of Sanford, Florida, and Hubert of Warwick; as sister Ines Morrisof New Milford; 13 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Pastor Richard Hughen of The Sussex Baptist Church conducted Services Tuesday at 1 p. at the Lazear-Smith Funeral Home , Warwick. Burial was in Warwick Cemetery. It seems Aunt Ines was trying to sort which family member was which. She wrote Uncle Harold who was living in VA asking him since he would remember the most. The following is his letter to her, dated 6 Feb 1974. Uncle Harold would have been 76 at the time, and Aunt Ines 62. Both are gone now, but luckily Aunt Ines was a packrat and saved the letter with other family items! Dear Ines, In answer to your letter will try to tell you what I can remember of the Card family. William Card was a brother to Julia Card. She married our great grandfather Henry S Utter of Cherry Ridge. So of course, William Card became uncle to the Utter children, and Grandma and Grandpa were aunt and uncle to the Card Children. So Grandpa Sylvester Utter was an cousin Card children which included Sylvester Card - Dot's father, and our own mother was a second cousin to Sylvester's children. Uncle Bill and Aunt Amine had several children beside Sylvester. I don't know if George had any children, he lived at West Milford. Barry had Lester, Percy, Charlie, Frak and Stella. W.H. Card had Rachel, Ella, Walter, John, and George. Katie married Bob Hopkins. They had a boy that died many yearsago. And Gertude married Bob Dixon and I remember they had two children both older than I am. Uncle Bill's farm laid over back of the Utter Cemetery at Cherry Ridge. I wish I had taken Casper up to his great grandfather's farm. If there are any questions about this let me know.
