Clement - "(Lester Prairie) Water tower, my dad was on the city council when that was built, name was on (a plaque). There where always a lot beer joint there when I was growing up."
My dad must have been there (in Lester Prairie) 7, 8, 9, 10 years maybe.
He had a store at Seven Corners in Minneapolis. And then he, that plumbing shop on Raymond Avenue, he had a jewelers sets there and he repaired watches.
But then he worked for the railroad, air brakes on locomotives. Before that, when we first moved to the city, he had a job as a machinist at the Minneapolis Iron Works, big machine shop, on Lake Street. And he would walk all the way over there and back from our house around the park (Bayless in St. Paul)."

"BARKULOO-BIRKEBAK
On Tuesday, June 18th in the Methodist Episcopal Church at eleven A.M., Rev. W. H. Barkuloo unisted in marraige his daughter, Miss Ella Susanna to Mr. Jorgen J. Birkebak.
The appointments were all very handsome, the church was decorated with a wealth of flowers and foliage. Ferns, and cut flowers in pink and white, were used exclusively in the decorations. The altar was wreated in green.
The church was filled with a large audience which included the most prominent people of Lester Pairie and Norwood.
The bride entered on the arm of her father. She was gowned in a handsome white French Crepe de chane trimmed with chantilly applique. A bridal veil entwined with a wreath of smilax, falling to the end of the train was worn, and a bouquet of bride's roses was carried.
Miss Grace Greenwood Wauffe, the Maid of Honor, wore a rose pink silk chiffon with trimmings of ivory duchesse lace, and carried pink roses.
The little flower girl, Miss Agnes Suhuneman was groome in white and carried a basket of roses which she strewed in the path of the bride.

A wedding breakfast was served the bridal party and immediate relatives at the brides home. Covers were laid for twenty-five. The rooms were profusely docrated with cut flowers and smilax.
Miss Barkuloo is the only daughter of Rev. and Mrs. W. H. Barkuloo, of this village, and is a bright and accomplished young lady who has made many friends since her residence amoung us. She is a graduate of Hamline university and taught in the Webster school at St. Paul for several years.
The groom is one of Lester Prairie's hustling young business men who with undaunted courage has pushed himself rapidly to the front in business circles. Being of a cheerful and accomandating disposition, he has made hosts of friends who wish him and his bride a fair portion of all the good things of this earth.
Mr. and Mrs. Birkebak have gone for a short trip and will be at home to their friends after July 20.
Amoung the guests from abroad were Mr. F. Booth, brother of Mrs. Barkuloo, of Council Bluffs; Mr. Paul A. Barkuloo, of Duluth; Mrs. E. E. Barkuloo, Miss Grace G. and Miss Jeanette A. Newspaper Article framed, in the possession of Doug Birkebak:
"BOOK ONE OF THE FIRST ON MEDICINE
J.J. Birkebak, 954 Hayless avenue, of Danish ancestry devoted for many generation to the practice of medicine has as an heirloom, handed down through the family from father to eldest son, what he believes is the first or one of the first medical books ever printed.
The book, in the Danish language, is six inches long by three and a half inches wide, printed on paper of rough texture now yellow with age and bound in pigskin stretched on copper. It is in two parts. The first part, printed in 1548, deals with children's diseases, and the second part, printed in 1598, deals with women's diseases. The two parts were bound together in 1599.
Handed down through the family with the book has come a story that at the time of its publication there was only one drug store in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Northern Germany, although in the book are numerous prescriptions, some of which are in use today.
Mr. Birkebak has been unable to find a collector of ancient books sufficiently versed to pass judgement on his heirlom and will be glad to show the book to authorities on the subject.
One of his hobbies is the collecting of antiquities. A find that he prizes highly is a brass candelbrum that apparently dates back to the [?]-teenth century.
Mr. Birkebak is shown in the photograph with the ancient medical book, the picture of the latter giving an idea of the metal covers and the type of binding."

by Richard Birkebak, August 31,1993 "At Grandma and Grandpa Birkebak's in St. Paul."
Corrine - "Clems father used to pick wild blueberries up north and they were quite small, and he'd bring
home a whole pile of them and poor grandmother would have to sit there and go through them. You'd dare not throw one away, not any of his blueberries.
Clement - What he'd like, was that other kind of berry, little red berry, had a distinctive flavor. Ma
would make jam out of it."

Clement - "(In reference to his father J. J. Birkebak) Oh boy, I'll tell, I'm not the man physically the man
he was. He would go around with me on my rounds after my mother died. Boy the things he would do. He was 84 when grandma died. And he went with me 84, 85, 86, 87 88...
(Corrine) - He really was a strong person, that's the Danish background, I think.
Well its tough to get old. Like my dad used to say 'Very few people die at my age' he said.
I can never remember as a kid sitting on my dad's lap, can never remember him holding me. I
supose he did, mother did though."

Clement - "I went over to visit him (J. J. Birtkebak) at the nursing home. We were sitting in a public room, it was about 4:30 - he was ok. I said I had to go, and no sooner than I got home and they called up and said your dad fell and they're taking him to the hospital. I talked to one of the doctors, he said
don't come down now, cause he said, 'He's out of it'. I did not go down right away. The next morning before noon, he knew us. He had broken his hip or leg, and I guess his lungs filled up, he just expired that's all."
