Mary Eva Vanderveer was born on 30. Dec. 1867 at Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. She was the daughter of
Uriah Vanderveer and
Laura Burnett Lanning. Mary Eva Vanderveer married

The death of Mrs. Eva Mary Vanderveer-Card quite suddenly Tuesday morning removed from Grinnell one of its early settlers. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, December 30, 1867, she came to Grinnell with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Uriah Vanderveer, in 1876, and for fifty-four years this has been her home.
She grew here into active and interesting womanhood, and was recognized by all who knew her as a woman of great work, modest, quiet, and helpful.
In February 1910 she was united in marriage to C.J. Card, a well known successful business and salesman of Grinnell and one of the proprietors for many years of the Card Shoe Store.
Her death occurred quite suddenly at her home in Grinnell where she had lived with her mother for several years.
Relatives surviving her are three sisters, Mrs. Lillian Batdorf and Mrs. Anna Penfield of Grinnell and Mrs. Ada Anthony of Haven. Her mother also survives her and one brother, Ralph Vanderveer of Marshalltown.
Out of town friends attending the funeral were Mrs. J.M. Fredrickson of Estherville, Fred M. Card of Burlington and son, Clayton, of the same place, Mrs. Ruel Rains and son Ruel of Kansas City.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Edmund Vittum and Dr. W.W. Bolt were held from the home Thursday afternoon. Music was a solo by Mr. E.B. Spencer. Bearers were F.C.Clayberg, Pete Staffanou, Peter Duke, Wallace Grounds, Carl Phelps, and Dr. C.V. Lawton.
She was buried at Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell, Poweshiek County, Iowa.
