David Voorhees was born on 6. Sep. 1757 at Somerset County, New Jersey. He was the son of
Isaac Van Voorhees and
Helena Barkalow. David Voorhees was baptized on 4. Dec. 1757 at Dutch Reformed Church, Six Mile Run, Somerset County, New Jersey. On an unknown date When he was 18 or 19 years old during the Revolution, he was alone on his father's farm in Middlebush. The British wer not far away and he suddenly saw a detachment of Howe's troops. Picking up his musket, David ran to the house but he was overpowered and securely bound. He noted everything that happened and managed to escape and wrote a list of the articles destroyed with their value. The list was accepted by the authorities and restitution made.
He married
Eva Oakey, daughter of
Abraham Oakey and
Mary Young, on 22. May. 1788. David Voorhees applied for a pension in which he said he was born in Somerset and had lived in Middlesex for 47 years. In 1834.
David Voorhees left a will on 29. May. 1837 at New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. He died on 9. Oct. 1841 at New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey, at age 84. His estate was proved on 19. Oct. 1841.
