William lost his mother at his birth and 3 months later his father died, so his father's brother, John Voorhees, Sr., of Princeton, NJ came to PA and brought back baby William and raised him. After John's death he took over his uncles farm, stone house, and maintained and cared for his cousin who was deformed.

The stone house near Princeton, NJ stills stands and William's children and grandchildren were born there.

The Voorhees history was given to the writer of 'Josiah Cafferty and his Descendants' (published in 1968, by Mr. Grant L. Misbach) by William Voorhees, Jr.'s great granddaughter Mary Louisa Ashley of Woodbridge, NJ in 1945. His estate was proved in Jan. 1856.
