dated 12/7/51: "My Grandfather Samuel or L. was married 3 times- 5
children by the first marriage- 4 by the 2nd and none by the 3rd. I do not
know who the wivers were. My mother was of the 1st marriage and her mother
died when she was 7 yrs. old- the children were: James, "Annie & Richard,
twins" Alice and David.
2. Letter written by Jane F. Van Orden to Margaretta Williams, dated Dec 13,
1951:" According to Frank Clinton Wardell's chart...Your grandfather's children
are indicated as follows: James, mar. Sarah Wardell of Bay Ridge, N.Y. died
1918; 10 children Richard, mar. Sarah Palmer of Brooklyn; one son who died.
Annie, mar. Charles Sherman of Manasquan, N.J. 5 children. Alice, mar. Allen
Goble of Point Pleasant, N.J. 4 Children."

At the time of the 1880 census James Wardell was 43. Sarah E.______ was 37.
He was born in Jersey, and she was born in NY. I assume that the census
meant born in Brookluyn, NY, when they say NY. The family lived in 197 12th
Street Brooklyn.
Sarah E. Wardell, my grandmother, married James H. Donnell of Brooklyn, b.
1870... I believe that James Wardell (son of Samuel) and the rest of his
family are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. My mother is buried in
Holy Cross Cemetery. He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.
